Following the success of last year's Boba Fett helmet, I thought I'd make another one! Hand-made from scratch: no 3D printed parts
A very basic set of flight controls and instruments when compared to today's aircraft. Also one heck of a view!
I'm humbled. Truly humbled. I mean, here I am, away for practically a month and when I just make a short snibbety-peak into the flickr-world, my photo immediately gets front page-status. It's also slightly embarassing to be honest... And also, it's not fun being favoured by the donkey-code. Really, 'cause it is just a code, and it clearly needs some changing.
Nevertheless, this photo already, in two days time, has the second most views of all my photos. It has the most faves and is in the top five when it comes to comments. AND, Explore #1, my first one ever! Woot! There is no way I could not be pleased, or happy.
So yeah, I am thrilled, :). Thank you every, every, every one.
And, I dedicate this FP to Mr. Brisson. I really don't have a choice, do I... I mean, besides from him having set a price on my head and all, I kind of did diss him, didn't I. But do know, that out of love, the horse too kicks. Ey?
And besides, he's a doll. (Wearing sparkling heels.)
The relentless process of clearing soil, turf, flowers, shrubs and trees from front gardens in our road continues - this time two doors down from us, a neighbour with his growing family needs more parking space for his work van - he's a central heating engineer - and more cars; a growing three, even four car family.
While our garden has a driveway for one car, with room for a visitor (I divorced my car three years ago)...

...absorbs gallons of rain over the year and is showing all the signs of spring growth, this garden - no longer a garden but a frontage - adds to the accumulation in the city of sterile hard surfaces. There had been talk until recently of planning rules to discourage this but under the Coalition government this is an imposition on the individual; an interference in private space. The idea that reducing the risk of flooding might be a public good has exit-ed left.

There are a variety of grass paving options now available which allow 'green parking' for cars and even heavier vehicles. Just try web-searching for 'grass driveways'. green driveways', 'turf reinforcement', 'porous grass paving grids'....
One of my favorite parts of how this design turned out is the greeting everyone gets as they rise to the front porch. One of the main trunks of this black willow rises through the porch deck, and then through the roof above, and reminds anyone about to enter to whom it is they owe a nod of gratitude for this exceptional experience.
The view from the front doorway of a tholtan on the northern flank of North Barrule, above the Albert Tower. If I had a view like this, I wouldn't bother with a door either ......
With the longer lens, it looks like a small bay sweeping round from Ramsey to the Point of Ayre!

Name : Yellow-fronted Barbet
Binomial nomenclature: Megalaima flavifrons
Status: least concern, endemic
Medium sized Barbet (17cm) endemic to Sri Lanka. Fairly common in the wet-zone, except the high hills. Seen solitary or in pairs frequenting in tall trees of well-wooded areas.
Rather than file off the third, unneeded hole, I decided to use it for mounting the fender stay. A 5mm spacer was used to prevent the mounting tang from contacting the fork blade.
Southbourne is a suburb of Bournemouth in the English county of Dorset. It is the most easterly part of the Borough of Bournemouth, situated between Boscombe and Christchurch. The area was previously known as Stourfield.
There are two car parks next to the beach: Warren Edge holds 192 cars, five for disabled use, Postcode BH6 4BE. Southbourne Cross Roads holds 78 cars, two for disabled use, Postcode BH6 3NH. The number 1c Yellow Bus (from Poole to Bournemouth Square to Christchurch) stops about ten minutes walk away from the beach. It runs generally every 20 minutes in summer.
Strictly Southbourne refers to the area near the coast; areas further inland are West Southbourne, Tuckton and Wick. Around 1766, Edmund Bott had a Georgian mansion built to the east of Pokesdown village, commanding views of Christchurch Harbour and he named it Stourfield House. One of the most celebrated inhabitants of Stourfield House was Mary Eleanor Bowes, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne. Stourfield House later became a care home, looking after servicemen who had been injured in the Great War. Today only the front steps survive, leading to a block of flats in Douglas Mews, and marked by a Blue Plaque.
Southbourne also had a short-lived pier. It was constructed in 1888 at a cost of £4,000 and was 300 feet long. There were regular boat-trips between the pier at Southbourne and the pier at Bournemouth. Unfortunately the pier, promenade and nearby sea wall built by Dr.Compton ( to rival the resort at Bournemouth ) were heavily damaged by storms in December 1900 and January 1901. A buyer for the pier was unable to be found and it was eventually demolished in 1909 due to concerns about public safety.
The main area of Southbourne is Southbourne Grove, a long shopping street that has some unique and individual shops rather than high street chain shops. Another local centre is Southbourne Crossroads, which is further east towards Hengistbury Head. Seafield Gardens is a public open space which has been awarded a Green Flag Award since 2001; it offers various outdoor facilities, including bowls and tennis. It also features a water tower. Between the cliff top coastal road and the promenade and beach is the Fisherman's Walk Cliff Railway, a funicular railway; this provides very easy access to Southbourne's Blue Flag beach, from which it is possible to reach the beaches at Boscombe and Bournemouth. Southbourne is still a busy area for tourists keen to escape the busier areas of Bournemouth town centre, although the number of guest houses in the area has declined in recent years. The easternmost part of the area is called Hengistbury Head.
Tuckton is a suburb of Bournemouth, situated on the River Stour in the eastern part of the borough. First recorded in 1271, this was a hamlet in the tithing of Tuckton and Wick until 1894, when the Local Government Act replaced all tithings in England and Wales with civil parishes and district councils. At that point, Tuckton became part of the civil parish of Southbourne, which was absorbed into the Borough of Bournemouth in 1901.
The lower reaches of Tuckton, including the shops in Tuckton Road, stand on one of the very flat gravel terraces that lie beneath much of modern Bournemouth. Tuckton is also notable for being the lowest bridging point over the Stour.[ The first bridge here, a wooden toll structure on iron piles, was opened to carriage traffic in May 1883. It was replaced by the present structure in 1905. The present bridge was designed to bear the weight of the Bournemouth Corporation trams, whose routes were being extended to Christchurch; accordingly, it was built using the Hennebique ferro-concrete construction method, then gaining popularity in England. When built, it was the longest Hennebique bridge in Britain ( at 347 ft. ), as well as being the first such bridge to carry a tramway. The tolls were abolished in 1943, though the toll-house continued to stand until 1955, and was used as a squat by the Booth family during the post-war housing crisis; the only drawback to living there, said Mrs. Booth, was that strangers knocked on the door at 2 a.m. asking how much it was to cross
The River Stour flows out along Tuckton and into the English Channel. The River Stour is a 60.5 mile ( 97 km ) long river which flows through Wiltshire and Dorset in southern England, and drains into the English Channel. It is sometimes called the Dorset Stour to distinguish it from rivers of the same name. The source of the river is at Stourhead, in Wiltshire, where it forms a series of artificial lakes which are part of the Stourhead estate owned by the National Trust. It flows south into Dorset through the Blackmore Vale and the towns of Gillingham and Sturminster Newton. At Marnhull the Stour is joined by the River Cale and then (two miles downstream) by the River Lydden. At Blandford Forum the river breaks through the chalk ridge of the Dorset Downs, and from there flows south east into the heathland's of south east Dorset. At Wimborne Minster it is joined by the River Allen, and at its estuary at Christchurch it is joined by the River Avon before it flows through the harbour into the English Channel. The Stour Valley Way is a designated long distance footpath that follows almost all the course of the river.

Living in 535 sq. feet is a constant battle. As a renter on a shoe-string budget, making major changes to my apartment is pretty much impossible. That being said, living within the constraints of my shoebox in the sky has forged a creativity I didn't know existed.

My proudest achievement and sadly largest project was the white bookcase. I got it for a song at Gothic Cabinet Craft (www.gothiccabinetcraft.com) on 3rd Avenue. The caveat being that it was unpainted, unfinished, and I had to figure out a way to get it home. Even with several coats of white, it retains a rough patina. I love it.
Lamp is from the Moma Store. Large photograph of Bob Dylan was a gift from my mother and is by the supremely talented Barry Feinstein. Pen and ink illustration by Marc McChesney, a good friend and terrific illustrator.
Standing in front of the dishwasher, this is a shot of where I was standing. The doorknob you see on the right side leads to the basement; the one you see in the foreground on the left is a closet; the one in the deep background on the right is a half-bath.
Credit goes to Ralph Savelsberg for sharing his designs and teaching us alot, especially about landing gear.
Based on the excellent strategy mod Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkreig, in whose alternate history most of my models are set.
This particular example flew with British 807 Squadron 'Trabajadores'; formed from Spanish Marxists exiled after the failed rising against their King. The unit is famed for their dedication and ferocity and sank two of the three German carriers at the Battle of Dogger Bank.
Thank you all SO much! I'm feelin' the Flickr love.
Happy Weekend!
Many thoughts and prayers to those whom lost loved ones 9 years ago today. May they always be remembered.
Ketteler neighborhood apartment building Number 10, built in 1925
To all who visit and view, and – especially – express support and satisfaction: you are much appreciated!

Mainz, Germany – 2017NOV05 – Ketteler Neighborhood:
We strolled through the Ketteler Neighborhood in Mainz-Oberstadt, named in honor of the German theologian and politician who served as Bishop of Mainz. He resolved to consecrate his life to maintaining the cause of the freedom of the Church from the control of the State, bringing him into collision with the civil power, an attitude which he maintained throughout a stormy and eventful life.
We then walked through the site of Fort Weisenau, exercise that did us good on such a damp day with its dreary weather.
The best 36 of 142 photos from this layover are a 5-album set:

i was attracted to take this picture, when i realised that the light coming from my car's headlight will give more nuance to this picture.
Lovely 61st/57tt available as a kit or complete. Built for last years Philly Bike Expo. Standard diameter extra light main tubes. Disc/ mechanical. This would be a fantastic all rounder or fast event bike. This picture is shown with an 840mm saddle height- good down to about 750mm depending on drop needs. This has an uncut steerer and a 120mm stem (that can be changed as needed).
