Poejazzi Fresh Verses, the second superb event in Poejazzi’s Year of the Poet season, brings to The Roundhouse five of the UK’s outstanding young poets and singer-songwriters between the ages of 13 and 25. There’s Matt Skint, hailing from Yorkshire and hailed as the heir to John Cooper Clarke, who at the age of only 2...1 has already been hotly tipped by BBC Radio 1’s Zane Low and by Q Magazine as a “Next Big Thing”. There’s also Dan Cullen, who at 13 is probably the youngest poet to have electrified an audience at the Big Chill Festival. Finally, and no less sublimely, there are the angelic acoustics of Valentina Pappalardo, following in the talented tradition of Nerina Pallot; and the very finest words from Jodi Ann Bickley, the winner of the 2009 Roundhouse Youth Poetry Slam.

newly molted cicada.. found next to its old skin.. the wings are still crinkled at the ends.. between photos it moved the front legs like it was doing the cha-cha.. i usually hate bugs but these guys are pretty interesting to look at..
but a few of you might be wondering......... all these food shots and now bugs?
well, i think it's a fair transition.. some people actually think these guys are a delicacy and will eat them skewered or stir-fried.. but i prefer mine to just hang out in the yard and sing me a little song.. :)

I've been making us different salads every night while the weather's been so hot. This one was fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, basil leaves, baby spinach, walnuts and fresh figs, all drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice and ground pepper. Served with soft rolls and a glass of red - yum
This year was the biggest Fresh Event in the College's history, kicking off the new academic year in style. With students able to sign up for many enrichment activities, take part in sporting challenges like Bokwa and Boxercise, get information and advice from the 30-plus exhibitors, and of course not to mention grab armfuls of freebies too.
