Fresh coconut: after drinking the juice the merchant cut the flesh into quarters, put them in a plastic bag and seasoned them with chili, salt and lime juice. So good!

One Hit Wonders Night!!!!
Fresh Blintz performed a set of covers by their favourite one hit wonders including:

These plants are found just beside our front stairs. It's really nice and refreshing looking at them when they have various shades of green like this. I was surprised by how clear the picture is even if it was taken merely with my phone last October 2006. I just found it among my photo files. It remains unedited apart from putting in the text.
We took a tour of a smaller island off of Chiloé, called Mechuque. This involved getting to watch locals in this remote community make an old chilote specialty: curanto. They dig a hole, burn a fire down to embers and then smoke-cook layers of fresh shellfish, potato dumplings, sausage and chicken, using giant spiky leaves as separators. Then they cover the whole thing for 30 minutes and when they open it everything is delicious and perfectly cooked. After the cooking we sat down to a great meal.

In 1946, the New York Life Insurance Company bought the 175-acre Fresh Meadow Country Club (opened 1923) for development as housing. Designed with people in mind, it consists mostly of two-storey row houses, three- to four-storey walkups and two thirteen-storey apartment towers.
