Amtrak's westbound Empire Builder pauses for a service, smoke or fresh air stop. Maybe the person that coined the term "fresh air stop" is/was a Quicksilver Messenger Service fan? Anyway, it was a great ride to PDX. I'd do it again tomorrow.

E' un invito a nozze, su www.lacassa.net/?info=forum&idf=15594&msg=602, la suggestione di parlare del solstizio d'estate in questi caldi, luminosi, dolcissimi giorni.
Dolcissimi come i frutti che portano, il compimento della maturazione, l'euforia del raccolto imminente che esalta le caratteristiche ricettive e femminili del momento... (luna e venere si unicono in cancro, splendido segno femminile) un sentimento languido di appagamento che si riflette nei cieli tersi (senza scie chimiche!) e nelle acque calme e abbondanti che portano vita: il Ceronda, in questo periodo, è uno spettacolo di suoni e colori.
Anche la natura partecipa: nel magico florario di Cattabiani (è un vero libro di magia) un intero capitolo viene dedicato alle 'erbe di San Giovanni', perchè in questo periodo si moltiplicano le fioriture; ed il solo andarne a leggere le caratteristiche è già un viaggio nella notte del magico Santo.
Come già avevo riportato lo scorso anno e accennato nel racconto sulla relatività del tempo, il solstizio d'estate è opposto a quello dell'inverno, e la festa di San Giovanni l'opposto di quella di Natale: come nel solstizio d'inverno si celebra la festa della luce, della vita, del giorno che risorge, dovremmo con San Giovanni festeggiare l'ombra, la sera, il ciclo che ricomincia a chiudersi, e... e anche l'ombra, le forze del male, il demonio, il male.
Celebrare il male: che c'è di più assurdo?
Forse perchè della fatal quiete tu sei l'imago,
a me sì cara vieni, o sera...
Penso (con Foscolo) invece che dovremmo fare spazio nella nostra mente anche a questi pensieri: perchè viviamo di dualità , perchè il bene non esiste senza il male, come il giorno senza la notte; perchè, come giustamente scrive Biagio, parliamo di cicli che si aprono... e si chiudono. Il respiro, il giorno, la stagione, l'anno, la vita, le vite, l'espansione e contrazione dell'universo, la rotazione dell'elettrone sul protone: tutti cicli, tutte espressioni dell'azione del tempo sull'essere, tutti effetti del nostro vivere così profondamente bagnati di tempo.
Anche in questo senso al 'garzoncello scherzoso' , e alla 'ginestra', voglio porre una provocazione al di là delle dicotomie e di Leopardi; la natura non è buona o cattiva, la natura è.
E' poi, dopo, in seguito, a posteriori, l'uomo che ne dà giudizio e classifica in bene, o in male, ciò che accade; non per nulla secondo il libro antico l'uomo si è macchiato del peccato primo mangiando dell'albero della conoscenza del bene e del male, prima di conoscerne la differenza se ne stava beato in panciolle nel paradiso terrestre.
Nell'afa di questi giorni mi piace chi porta nel cuore i venti di settembre, i freddi di ottobre, i funghi, le prime gelate e l'inverno: per danzare con il tempo, per godere ancora più dei frutti maturi del clima odierno e della complementarietà dei freddi futuri, per avere nel cuore qualcosa di più grande dell'ora e adesso, qualcosa che annusa l'esistere.

This location was built and opened in 2004 and was originally located here. It closed in May 2018 and reopened on November 9th, 2018, under new ownership.
This is sort of a random and isolated photo, but I had no idea about this sign on the back of their building when I first photographed this shopping center in January. It faces I-264, similar to how their sister store in Newport News has one facing I-64. It’s cool too that they kept the older logo up, which hasn’t been used since about 2005!
This was the logo for Farm Fresh grocery store in 1982. I like it though, its classic, something that says "1980s". I don't know the name of the farmer boy, but he was the mascot up until about the late 80s.

I have heaps of other shots from today, but I'm feeling a bit under the weather this evening and very tired.... so I am giving up with photos and slouching in front of the TV!
Fresh year, fresh perspective.
This was my first try at free lensing and though "technical wise" there is not one salvageable photo, but the reason art is so beautiful is because it's so different and there is no right or wrong way of doing it. I want to have a new fresh perspective this year on photography and push myself more and more. I will cherish this photo forever because to this mama it is a beautiful photo of my little peanut <3
