When I saw a fantastic piece of ripe, seedless watermelon at the store on Saturday... sorbet immediately came to mind.
To make this sorbet, process the following ingredients in a blender or food processor until smooth:
1.5 pounds of ripe, seedless watermelon
3/4 - 1 cup sugar
several tablespoons of fresh lemon or lime juice (I used key limes)
2 tablespoons of vodka
Because it doesn't freeze, vodka greatly improves the sorbet texture without affecting the flavor. Sorbets without liquor often freeze too hard and don't get that nice, slushy texture.
After all the ingredients are processed, churn the mixture for 25-30 minutes in an ice cream machine. Freeze in an airtight container until firm.
Delicious and refreshing!
Soon to close Fresh and Easy supermarket in the City of Murrieta, California, this location opened in 2008 in the corner of Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Margarita Road (hence the name ''Margarita Ville Shopping Center'') This location however will be shutting down, most likely by mid November.

The facade of this store is almost identical to the one in Temecula, this store did have a good run, for almost 7 years it anchored ''Margarita Ville Shopping Center'' alongside the UFC Gym (formerly Fitness 19, I believe) while, across the road the eastern part of the shopping center once held a locally owned dollar store (now a Goodwill) and a local gym (then Gold's Gym but currently another locally owned gym).

This was a hard theme for me. How to convey fresh? I went with a fresh face / body type of theme and was delighted to see Sarah's citrus shots. The droplets tied both the photos in nicely, only a tweak of the colors was done to make the images work well together.

This is my ultimate favorite kind of feast. Nothing brings me more joy than the mingling of nuts, fresh and dried fruits with wonderful, flavorful cheeses. This is a selection of fine gourmet cheese with fruits and nuts. Clockwise from right Dutch Aged Gouda, French Chevrot, Danish Bleu Castello, Swiss Marechal, and French Istara.

I am always looking for a clean composition to photograph and I work very deliberately and diligently to place the camera in the optimum position to avoid having distracting elements within the in frame. I find it sometimes necessary to remove such elements as fallen tree branches and other clutter altogether. The natural forest however, is rarely tidy and in this image, instead of looking to photograph a cleaned-up view I decided to capture the natural elements as they are.

One year ago today, the Hernando Kroger Marketplace celebrated its grand opening – so congrats on your anniversary, Hdo Kroger! To commemorate the event, here's a photo of the store taken during the grand opening event, on January 21st, 2017.
Now... if you've been following my photostream for a while, then you know that what I wrote above is nowhere near the full story at play here, haha! Indeed, this Kroger Marketplace actually first opened its doors to the public several months earlier, back on September 14th, 2016. Kroger simply waited to hold the official grand opening ceremony until the following January so that it would coincide with the opening of the accompanying new fuel center – which itself was delayed so long due to the fact that much of the lot it was built on still had to be fully cleared of its remnants of the old Kroger store and parking lot that once stood on the site!
Confusing, right? Here's that summary again, in order this time: Kroger opened its first store on this site in 2001, then in 2015 began building a new Marketplace store – three times the size of the existing one – on directly adjacent land. Once the new store opened, the old one was promptly demolished and paved over for both more parking and a new fuel center. The project wrapped up (for the most part) in January 2017... and to celebrate the one-year anniversary of that, I'm about to (finally!) upload some interior photos from the new store, beginning this Saturday and spanning 50 photos altogether. Stick around!

Freshly painted CSX GP30 4237 was sunning itself in New Castle along with a former Chessie System SD50 in 1987.
This was my first encounter with a CSX painted locomotive.

I grew up in the era that people lived with the seasons, nothing 'forced' in glass houses or transported from far away.
You bought, in Winter, and only on special occasions, lettuce... per 100 grams!
You wanted peas? Only in tins, same as beans, that or conserved in the Summer
In Winter also the veggies that need much heat=long stewing.
Summer was the season of abundance, with fantastic tastes in the veg and fruit
Now, the same all year round and very often : not in season=no taste!
BABY PAK CHOI... GALORE
Closely related to bok choi, this leafy green Chinese vegetable belongs to the cabbage family (though tastes nothing like cabbage!).
It has long green, slightly ribbed leaf stalks and soft oval green leaves.
The leaves and stems are best suited to brief stir-frying or steaming to retain their mild flavour.
Occasionally you may be able to find baby pak choi which can be cooked whole.
Great for a diet, because few calories!
I use it in stir-fries and soups.

The heatwave had gripped the countryside for weeks, turning the normally green fields into a sea of parched, cracked earth. Old Man Hemlock, who had farmed this land for sixty years, had never seen anything like it. The sun beat down with a relentless, fiery intensity, and the air shimmered with the heat. Then, a faint sound, like distant popping firecrackers, began to drift across the fields. He squinted, adjusted his straw hat, and realized with a mix of horror and wonder that the sound was coming from his own cornfields. The kernels on the stalks, unable to withstand the blistering temperatures, were popping right where they stood.
A soft, white cloud began to form over the field, a strange, beautiful contrast to the harsh, brown landscape. The popping intensified, a frenzied drumbeat against the silence of the sweltering afternoon. Soon, the air was filled with the buttery aroma of fresh popcorn, a scent that was both inviting and deeply unsettling. The popcorn floated on the wind, a surreal snowstorm in the middle of a blazing summer. Old Man Hemlock watched as the airborne kernels settled on the fence posts, the barn roof, and even on the head of his prize-winning goat, Bartholomew, who seemed to be enjoying the unexpected snack.
The local news quickly caught wind of the spectacle, sending a reporter and a camera crew to document the phenomenon. The reporter, struggling to maintain her professional composure while being pelted with warm, fluffy popcorn, described the scene as "a truly historic meteorological event, unprecedented in its deliciousness." The broadcast went viral, and within hours, tourists began to flock to the farm, bringing giant bags and buckets to collect the free-falling snack. Old Man Hemlock, who had initially been worried about his ruined crop, ended up setting up a small stand, selling cold sodas to the crowds and marveling at the bizarre turn of events that had transformed his ruined cornfield into a roadside attraction.
Getting pictures of the wall decor in this store was super frustrating. Standing in the main aisle ends up with the pictures being at an extreme angle, since the main aisles of this store are rather narrow, but going back into the aisles ends up with a bunch of stuff in the way.
Additionally, the orange tone on the dairy picture sign (hiding behind the aisle 9 marker) makes it even uglier that the black-and-white ones in Redmond. At least Fred Meyer didn't feel the need to repeat the department name over and over in this store...
