Traditionnal Fish park in Tetamanu Pass Fakarava, Frenc Polynesia

The beautiful beaches of Mo'orea in the French Polynesian island chain are gorgeous. Island beaches are always interesting to me as I grew up near the Atlantic where the sand was often choppy and rough, and not a few inches from the last spot you were standing there is a drop down in elevation of several feet; where the ocean seems to want to beat you up with waves and send you sprawling. Here, the waves break way out from the beaches themselves which have a steady and gentle incline back up to land and the sand is always soft. The water, too, is lovely and clear and you can see little fish swimming about doing their thing. And of course, palm trees. Sometimes it seems like the only scary part about island beaches are the impending coconuts that may or may not fall at any moment. Though I wouldn't want to be nearby during a storm. © 2012-Current.

Statue of a TIKI

One of the Marquesas most pervasive images. The enigmatic tiki are carved humanlike statues. The height of which varies from a few dozen centimetres to almost 3m. The highly stylised mouth and eyes are the most striking features. Experts believe tiki had a religious and symbolic function.

It's believed that this extensive communal site, with its paved esplanade, belonged to the war chief PAKOKO, who was killed by the French in 1845. Today it is a peaceful spot full of massive banyan trees and flowers. All the stone carvings are contemporary. Petroglyphs are hidden among the few paepae ...

I got this card during our honeymoon.

The sound of roosters will always make me think of French Polynesia.

It was hard for my camera to capture the light and contrast of this scene, but seeing Bora Bora rise up across the ocean was an almost hallucinogenic experience (to borrow a phrase from the guidebook.) The morning haze did strange and wonderful things to the light during our entire time on the mountain.

Day 2 in Tahiti and it started Foggy, then stayed overcast and raining and just as on que the last pic shows a hint of sunset. Spent the day at the resort and tomorrow we embark on the Aranui 5 for 12 days heading to the Marquesas, Tuamotu & Society Islands #travel #travelphotography #frenchpolynesia #tahiti #travelhotographer #travelphotography
