This is where we have to cross to get from the house to the DLR. Beckton Park DLR station is immediately ahead, at the top of the pic, across the road outside the boundary of the park. Immediately behind, at the bottom of the pic, is the pathway through to where we live. The path worn by the people diametrically across the park is usually muddy, and makes the train and the house muddy. It should be paved over. Expecting people to walk round the perimeter of the park is simply ridiculous - it just doesn't happen.

Shot from 16th and Cherry. 4 frames, 1/20th and 1/40th, f9 at 102mm to tiff, to hdr, back to tiff. ProPhoto colorspace really mattered on this one. 35 megapixels in all.

The popular historical town center has many preserved half-timbered houses and narrow streets have remained nearly unchanged since the 18th century. Very touristy in the high season but outside of this busy period you can still explore the beauty of this beautiful town.

Horton Plains is situated to the south of Nuwara Eliya. This plain is a unique ecological zone of wet patana grassland with a cloud forest and is home to unique and endemic wildlife. This coldest and windiest location in Sri Lanka consists of ecosystems such as Montane evergreen forests, grasslands, marshy lands and aquatic ecosystem. At an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level, Horton Plains spreads across over 3,169 hectares of the highest tableland of the island. In view of the large number of endemic flora and fauna species, Horton Plains was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 30th July 2010. The Horton Plains National Park offers amazing hikes amongst the shadows of Sri Lanka’s second and third-highest mountains; Kirigalpotta (2395m) and Totupola (2359m), each of which rear up from the edges of the plateau. If you want to camp here there are 3 campsites available for booking. Chimney Pool area is one of the most beautiful parts of the Horton Plain according to our experience. That could be one of the reasons for the Battaramulla Wild Life Department to allow to build campsites around Chimney Pool. To book Camping sites you have to visit Battaramulla Wild Life Department or you can call this number for booking 0112888585. Annual temperature of Horton plains is around 12-13 °C. But this could be decrease to 5 °C or even less. So if you are not comfortable with harsh & cold weather conditions I do not recommend camping here(not recomended for beginners). Specially around 3.00 am to 7.00 am temperature can be drop to minimum. If you plan to stay make sure to take some warm clothes, jackets,bed sheets or a good sleeping bag. Also you have to agree to the strict rules of Wild Life Department( no camp fire,no alcohol etc) Last but not least please clean your camping site before you leave and take every thing with you.

With the crazy cold temperatures we experienced over the last few days, the birds were visiting our yard in record numbers.
The Chickadees are probably some of the luckier birds because they were able to enjoy the mealworms, the suet, the bird seed in the bird feeders, and even the treats in the Squirrels Goodie Bowls.
I was able to snap this shot through the kitchen window which is a rare treat because they usually scatter when they see us, but they didn't seem to mind our presence as much during these few days.

quite close to lake Kongsø, but a different kind of lake. Watched the sun setting, getting cold, before I drove home
Comet C/2011 L4 (PANSTARRS) floats in the twilight sky over the farm buildings in the West Michigan countryside.
I did manage to see it naked-eye, but had to see where it was on the image so I could look int he right place in the sky. You need to be away from city lights and wait until deep twilight, as it is near the limit of visibility.
This time it was just as cold out with the wind. Stupid wind. :)
