Following yesterday’s lovely winter sunshine we were expecting much the same today. Things started off OK, bright with a thick covering of ice on everything, then as it got towards lunchtime the freezing fog started rolling in. Anyway it provided an opportunity to test my new 35mm lens in the gloomy light outside the window, seems to be working OK. The last few leaves are falling from the trees, I’d like to say we’ve got our view back, but it’s not possible to see the other side of the valley in this murk.

It's freezing ... the frost may not be an actual textile but there are lots of icy textures hanging on to our outside balcony!!

Mother nature has given a big and cold surprise as every corner is filled with snow. Near the small village of Kurkimäki, a Fenniarail's timber train has started its journey to Immola, as the loud sound of class Dr18 diesel locomotive brings something else to the freezing morning.

The majestic but forgotten/derelict building in the background is the old General Office for Shotton Steelworks.

Freezing conditions as Stacksteads turns into the Arctic.
Cold but lovely. It’s nice to see a blue sky and the sun.
Wrap up well for winter.

Freezing fog moved through the area in the night leaving 'frosting' on everything, until the morning sun melted it off.
