The Speckled Hummingbird (Adelomyia melanogenys) is a fascinating species native to the Andean cloud forests. This photograph was taken at La Minga Ecolodge, near Cali, Colombia, a location renowned for its rich biodiversity and stunning wildlife. Captured in the soft afternoon light, the hummingbird is perched gracefully on a stem of Stachytarpheta flowers, its speckled plumage and subtle brown tones creating a natural harmony with the surrounding greenery. The vibrant purple flowers provide a striking contrast, drawing attention to the intricate details of the scene.
Using my Canon R5 with an RF 100-500mm lens at 500mm, I shot this image at f/6.7 with ISO 800 in Program mode, letting the intelligent metering select a shutter speed of 1/180 second. This setup allowed me to balance the available light while freezing the hummingbird’s still pose in sharp detail. The shallow depth of field isolates the subject from the soft, blurred background, emphasizing its delicate features. This fleeting moment reflects the unpredictability and rewards of wildlife photography, showcasing the beauty of the natural world and the importance of preserving it for future generations.

White Pelican in the frigid water of Cherry Creek Reservoir. With one wing frozen in place and beaks freezing shut, all I could do was leave a message in hopes that it was listened to and that a park ranger would help. I stayed for an hour and walked out to where they were on shore but it only sent them into the water. It was a cold 17 degrees with no sign of warming up soon. I left a message for the park ranger at the office of Cherry Creek State Park. American White Pelicans are a protected species.

De passage à Sherbrooke, nous avons découvert l'impressionnante Basilique-cathédrale Saint-Michel, située en plein cœur du centre-ville. Une journée de pluie et de verglas nous avait immobilisés quelques heures, nous offrant ainsi l’occasion d’admirer cette majestueuse structure et d’en capturer quelques clichés.
J’en profite également pour saluer nos membres natifs de Sherbrooke : Mario Castonguay, Vickie Lacharité Johane Deslandes ainsi que notre incroyable star des Faucons, Annie Bevilacqua avec qui nous aurons le plaisir de partager un Skyline de Montréal lors de la semaine du 9 avril 2025.
La Basilique-Cathédrale Saint-Michel de Sherbrooke est l’un des édifices religieux les plus remarquables des Cantons-de-l’Est, tant par son architecture grandiose que par son importance spirituelle et historique. Sa construction, débutée en 1914, s’est achevée en 1957.
Son intérieur est sublimé par de somptueux vitraux, un maître-autel imposant et une richesse artistique impressionnante. De style néogothique, elle se distingue par ses hautes flèches et ses vitraux d’une beauté saisissante.

While passing through Sherbrooke, we discovered the impressive Saint-Michael’s Basilica-Cathedral, located in the heart of downtown. A day of rain and freezing rain had immobilized us for a few hours, giving us the opportunity to admire this majestic structure and capture a few shots.
I also take this opportunity to send my regards to our native members from Sherbrooke: Mario Castonguay, Vickie Lacharité, Johane Deslandes, as well as our incredible Falcons star, Annie Bevilacqua, with whom we will have the pleasure of sharing a Montreal skyline during the week of April 9, 2025.
Saint-Michael’s Basilica-Cathedral in Sherbrooke is one of the most remarkable religious buildings in the Eastern Townships, both for its grandiose architecture and its spiritual and historical significance. Construction began in 1914 and was completed in 1957.
Its interior is adorned with magnificent stained glass windows, an imposing high altar, and an impressive artistic richness. In neo-Gothic style, it stands out with its towering spires and breathtaking stained glass.

While biking from work to home, I saw this beautiful fog. Further on I came in this fog and the temperature dropped from 12 to 4 degrees. I wasn't prepared for that with my shorts and no gloves. Still more than half an hour in that cold until home. brrrrr
