In several cartoons, Heston makes fun of the inconsistencies of the Bible and its promoters. For instance, religionists may lobby legislatures (sometimes successfully) to impose a sabbatarian day of rest on people for the purposes of moral edification while ignoring their own book's exhortations to drunkeness on the same day of rest. The irony here is that Sam Small, whose name appears on the signpost over the drunkard, was himself a drunkard for a time until he found Reverend Samuel P. Jones and became a prohibitionist. The "hewers of wood" he professes to respect to are the prisoners at the left of the panel, and the man he prefers to the infidel is the drunkard under the sign. Surely a confused morality at best.
