I love chunks of Amethyst. I used 7 and paired them with dark tearshaped African Amethyst beads. The chunks are offset on either side with glittering bicones of Swarovski Crystal. This one hugs close to the neckline. It was so hard to get a photo because the bling from the crystals kept throwing off the background!

It will be seen from our obituary column that another old identity has passed away in Dr. Stockwell, the Health Officer for the city of Auckland. He died last evening, after an illness of some months' duration, at the comparatively early age of 57, and leaves a widow to mourn her loss. His death was not unexpected, and through his lengthy illness, suffering from heart disease, he has been assiduously attended to by Dr. Mackellar. Deceased was formerly a surgeon in the Army, and served in the Crimea. About a quarter of a century ago he came out to Auckland, where he soon acquired a good professional practice. He was for some time one of the members of the hon. medical staff of the Auckland Hospital, and also acted as honorary surgeon to some of our benevolent institutions, For years past he had been Health Officer to the city. Dr. Stockwell had one of the best situated farms in the Waitakerei district, where he also carried on farming operations. His decease will be viewed with regret by his medical brethren and bv the citizens generally. The interment will be private.

To the Editor: Sir, — Having heard that a report was circulated that the late Dr. Stockwell, who was an outspoken freethinker, had recanted at the last, I beg most emphatically to correct such an erroneous impression as this report would create by stating, that the doctor himself expressly desired that he should be buried by the simple ceremony of the free-thinkers, and myself had the painful pleasure of reading a piece from the "Truth Seeker" of his own selection as the burial service—painful because of the fact that we were putting away for ever one of Auckland's most valued citzens and my most dear and truest friend.—I am, &c. W. C. Dennis.

DEATH OF MRS STOCKWELL

Mrs Stockwell, relict of the late Dr. Stockwell, of Auckland, passed away peacefully at one o'clock on Friday morning, after an illness of some weeks' duration. Tbe deceased lady had for some time been living with her son, Mr Chas. Cowan, at Mimiwhangata, and a short time ago decided to take up her residence in Whangarei. With that end in view she purchased a portion of the late Mr Bedlington's estate and had erected thereon a very substantial house. Before the building was finished, however, the deceased lady was seized with an indisposition which the doctors soon pronounced to be a breaking up of the system. Tbe deceased lady desired to go into her new home before the end should come, and had her wish gratified. Her closing hours were spent complacently and peacefully and death came as in a sleep. The late Mrs Stockwell was greatly beloved by those who knew her for her amiable disposition, her simple and pure tastes. Her remains will be taken to Auckland next Monday to be interred alongside those of her late husband.

The remains of the late Mrs Stockwell were conveyed to Auckland by the s.s. Wellington on Monday last. The remains of the deceased lady were followed by a large number of friends from her late dwellinghouse to the railway station.

News comes from Auckland of the death, in his 70th year, of Mr Charles Cowan, who, after an adventurous youth abroad, settled down in the Waitakere district, where he has resided ever since. He was a stepson of Dr Wm, Stockwell, one of Auckland’s early medical men.

At the Forks of the Road—An Eternal Parting.

In a recent railroad accident, a family of four persons were instantly killed. The father and son were unbaptized Infidels, but the mother and daughter were baptized believers and belonged to the church. The picture on the first page of this TRUTH SEEKER is intended to convey a faint idea of the parting of that family in the land of shades.

According to the Christian creed, when these departed souls arrived at the forks of the road where

the devil's turnpike leads off from the heavenly footpath, we may naturally suppose that Satan was on the lookout for game and seized on the father and son as his meat, while winged angels swooped down to guide the mother and daughter through the pearly gate into the blissful servitude of heaven.

An obedient Christian who is well fortified in the doctrin[e] of hate, as commanded in Luke xiv, 26,

might take some pious comfort in a situation like this, but a humane heathen would undoubtedly prefer to believe in the horrible vagaries of an able-bodied nightmare or a harmless Joss rather than this Christian doctrin[e] or a God so pitiless and fiendish as the superannuated individual who is said to be the author of such cruelty as this.

Today I viewed Heildelberg for the first time. To say it was incredible is a simple understatement.

Wow.... Just ... Wow..

God has set His seal of approval on the Holy Rosary by many miracles, and in spite of the Papal Bulls that have been written approving it, there are only too many people who are against the Holy Rosary today. These freethinkers and those who scorn religion either condemn the Rosary or try to turn others away from it.

It is easy to see that they have absorbed the poison of Hell and that they are inspired by the devil----for nobody can condemn devotion to the Holy Rosary without condemning all that is most holy in the Catholic Faith, such as the Lord's Prayer, the Angelic Salutation and the mysteries of the life, death and glory of Jesus Christ and of His Holy Mother.

These freethinkers who cannot bear others to say the Rosary often fall into a really heretical state of mind without even realizing it and some to hate the Rosary and its holy mysteries.

To have a loathing for confraternities is to fall away from God and true piety, for Our Lord Himself has told us that He is always in the midst of those who are gathered together in His name. No good Catholic should forget the many great indulgences which Holy Mother Church has granted to Confraternities. Finally, to dissuade others from joining the Rosary Confraternity is to be an enemy of souls because the Rosary is a sure means of curing oneself of sin and of embracing a Christian life.

Saint Bonaventure said (in his Psalter) that whoever neglected Our Lady would perish in his sins and would be damned: "He who neglects her will die in his sins." If such is the penalty for neglecting her, what must be the punishment in store for those who actually turn others away from their devotions!

"A believer is a bird in a cage, a freethinker is an eagle parting the clouds with tireless wing”

-Robert Green Ingersoll

Ah, old Thom Paine, the bête noire of the religionists, the touchstone of rationality for all freethinkers. The ass may kick him (as many preachers did, attributing the moral decay of the society to him long after he had died), but while the body of the lion may be still, the body of his ideas outlives the asses who kick him. (Note Heston's monkey, sarcastically beribboned as a doctor of divinity goading the ass to waste its energies.)
