This was our 2nd project in second year where we started looking into freelance photography and way we could become freelance photographer’s ourselves in the near future. We had 6 photography genres to pick from; Photojournalism, Fashion, Sports, Architectural, Landscape and Editorial. We had to pick 2 of the subjects which all had 3 briefs attached to them and had to work with one of the briefs as if it had been given to us by a client. My main subject I picked was Sports, as this is where I specialise myself most, and had to shoot the subject matter, thus being the show jumper, in action doing their specialist sport.
Because I do a lot of action photography within the equine genre, I found this an easy brief to follow to as I knew exactly what I client that asked for an action shot would want from the image. I also plan to go into freelance photography later on in my life, so going into the research and rights as a photograph was extremely helpful knowing what I could and couldn’t do as a freelance photographer.
I picked these 2 images because both show the horse in the suspense, which is the most popular of movement desired from equine sports photographers. Also the horse, rider and jump were pin sharp and you are able to see the expression of the rider and the detail of the horse’s body very clearly.

Samarkand is the second-largest city in Uzbekistan and the capital of Samarqand Province. Founded circa 700 BC by the Sogdians, Samarkand has been one of the main centres of Sogdian civilization from its early days. The city is most noted for its central position on the Silk Road between China and the West and for being an Islamic centre for scholarly study. It is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world and at times has been one of the greatest cities of Central Asia. In 2001, UNESCO added the city to its World Heritage List as Samarkand – Crossroads of Cultures. This image is one of a series taken in October 2012.

Stretching our legs on a guided walk on one of the most beautiful islands in the Galapagos, Isla Fernandina. The island’s active volcano erupted as recently as 2009. Thousands of marine iguanas reside here, and it’s also a favorite haunt of Galápagos penguins, cormorants, seal lions, and more.
