The big ring around the sun that you might see in the afternoon sky is known as a 22-degree halo. This optical phenomenon is caused by the refraction and reflection of sunlight by millions of tiny ice crystals in high cirrus clouds, which are typically found at altitudes of around 20,000 feet or more above our heads

Setup a long exposure with a Platypod Max on a fence. Really handy accessory and gets in spaces where a tripod setup would be tough.
Also tried out the Denoise feature in the new Lightroom updates. It's not bad, but need to test it against Topaz at some point. :")

A Christmas tree created from the pineapple leaves for the Calopsitta/cockatiel parrots family. The primal origin of cockatiels is Australian, so we thought to decorate a most suitable Merry Xmas tree, more bird-dimensioned, avoiding to use our mountain pines :-) Obviously the fruit has been eaten while the parrots gave many bites to the leaves.
This photo is dedicated to all the amazing Flickr friends who are steadily asking for info about the progresses of our 8 newborn parrots.
Here to the left you can see "El Condor" yayyy, the tiny one you saw described as the newly born lil alien, look how beautiful he is now!
On top of the tree there is Cannelle (who is revealing to probably be a male, no! She's female in fact :) while Georgia the Senior is hidden by the glass bottle.
The puppies are very active now, they play all of the time, we leave them free outside their large cage for hours, so it's more difficult to have them posing together. I've chosen this pic as the smallest & last born one (El Condor) is visible in first row to the left. They were playing with some strings & ribbons we used to decorate the Xmas tree, having much fun.
Another news: Principessa has started to sing!! Just as her Daddy Juki and she seems to be very attentive & focused when he sings the Addams jingle, willing to learn, then she tries many times, stubbornly, and sometimes she succeeds to perform half a concert. Her preferred position where to sing & exhibit her music is on top of a radio, lol. Making amazing progresses every day. Now, 6 on 8 can already nourish themselves with seeds independently. Only Georgia & Cannelle still need a lil help via our hand feeding but the more time passes the better they learn to integrate their nourishment with seeds.
Very soon Georgia & Paco will be adopted by another family from South Tirol, friends of the first family who came to us purposely to adopt Pepe to cheer up their lil childgirl who had lost her own cockatiel. Now their friends want to adopt 2 ! Another one, the blond Peppa, has just been adopted by the Photographer & naturalist Gianni. So, all in all, we should stay with JUST 8 parrots which is very makable for us. Principessa, Giga, Cannelle, El Condor will stay with us & the company of their parents Tina & Juki. Plus our other 2 parakeet parrots. Cheers! Enjoy the photo :-)

A cloud formation that I added a bit of contrast and exposure manipulations for the effect. The dark cloud formation's shape and texture has not been altered from the original.
The Florida scrub lizard inhabits isolated patches of evergreen oak and sand pine scrubland throughout Florida. They require open areas for basking and dry conditions. They’re never found in Florida’s wetlands or anywhere with a closed canopy.
Without land ownership, the poorest will pool family recourses and recycle trash and native plants and trees to make homes based on indigenous designs over water along rivers, bays, and coastline of the thousands of islands in the Philippines. Cooking, cleaning, bathing, sleeping, and living in such dwellings are challenging to say the least.
Back Story to this photo. I was walking in a recreational park just after sunrise after a long three day weekend. The area is used for BBQ and party events. This apparent "gift" must have been unwanted by the receiver and left abandoned outside the public bathrooms. I'm sure there are tons of whitty titles for this image just waiting to be shared in the comments....please have at it. ;-) Wayne

Actually, one of the columns is hidden behind the second from the right. The tourist in the picture became my 7th. This is a tourist attraction 25 minutes away from Las Vegas that draw a lot of selfie seekers. It was 118F (47.7 C) outside when I snapped this image.

But not today. Today the earth rejoices, because today we have anemones. Anemones in lust. At least in the preset. These are not anemones, btw. Nor was there any lust present. Rly. What kind of photostream do you think this is??
I give you the long awaited premier of Anemone Lust - available off the blog as a FREE download for Lightroom, ACR and PSE (6 & 7). Follow the link to the blog in my profile.

Magnolia fades,
Pine needles weave nature’s quilt—
Life in decay blooms.
An orange-yellow, decaying magnolia leaf rests on the ground, surrounded by a carpet of pine needles and other decaying tree matter.

After a walk in the rain during a recent storm, Zuki finds a warm place to dry out, her shaggy bed. She's 12 years and 9 months old, same age as me now in human years when I took this image.(65). She'll be my older sister on her next birthday in April. Dogs age way too fast.

Shot of a sea anemone stuck on the glass on the aquarium in Bermuda. I shot this with a Nikon D70 digital camera than brought it into Photoshop. I adjusted the colors using a couple curves. The white swirls were done using custom brushes. And the border was from a Polaroid that I downloaded form the internet.

SHELTER - by Alysia Marie
I can’t prevent the rain from falling,
Oh no, I can’t prevent the storm-
But I’ll be here for you when you’re frightened,
And craving shelter from it all.
Even through a drizzle,
Or a mighty hurricane-
I’ll brace the weather whole heartedly,
If it means that you are safe.
For if the beast that’s brewing,
Is tearing down your forests limb by limb-
And the travesties he’s causing,
Are forcing you to walk with him-
I’ll take your hand so quickly,
And run with you so far away-
So this being can’t get hold of you,
And has to seek out other prey.
See darling your soul is mighty and pure,
Filled with comforts so serene-
And your mind is made up of fortresses,
Stronger than any part of me-
I’ll never give up if it means bringing you home,
To the comforts you once knew-
The safety of your own body and mind,
Every beautiful part of you.
