A very small hand painted Japanese tea cup & saucer gifted to Pam as a young child from a relative. "Made in occupied Japan" inscribed on the bottom. The saucer was broken two years ago when it was knocked off a display case by an individual cleaning the room. Could not be repaired as a couple of fragments missing. The gift was a bit ironic as Pam's father was a marine who fought in the Pacific during WWII. Photographed on a black tabletop using available light and slow shutter. Cropped to under 3 inches.

Negative 5x7" on moulded Fomapan 200. Cyanotype on questionable paper, toned in tannic acid. Contrast upped a bit during scanning.
Enjoy the large view
If blood will flow when fresh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrows rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay
Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetimes argument
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are
Sting
Fragile
This morning the frost was hard and the sky clear. The ice in this old Oak was falling in small lumps and soon the Oak would be free again of it's icy coat.

Last Sunday morning, I could capture these fragile beauties, the Mountain Pansy's.
They only grow here in our region, the triangle of Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
Camera low above the ground, using Liveview.
Handheld.
My new years resolution is simple: this year I want to learn one or two alternative processes for making beautiful one-off prints. I have been playing around with cyanotype and salted paper in the past, but I want more.
Now I'm trying Albumen. This is the first half decent result.
What I've learned so far:
- I should be more patient (write 50 times...)
- after beating the egg whites to a froth, I should let the albumen settle until it is mostly liquid again
- the type of paper is really important. I'm getting the best results with Hahnemuhle Platinum rag so far, so let's stick to that or similar for a while.
- Wait until the sensitized paper is dry, don't start printing too early
- Use dense negatives (which are 1,5-2 stops overdeveloped I guess). I'm not sure yet, but this seems critical.
- my old solarium seems to work well as a light source
- I should use heavier glass to flannel the negative against the paper
Maybe I should do a course to steepen the learning curve. Any tips on Albumen (or Kallitype) courses in or near the Netherlands would be welcome!
