Experimenting with the Sigma 50-100mm f1.8. It's designed to cover aps-c but is EF mount. I decided to mate the lens with a Meike Speed booster to see if the bokeh changed much. Short answer, yes there is more swirl and vignette. The sharpness takes a hit but I like the rendering. I'll definately be experimenting more with this lens.
A unit train of silica sand hopper cars flies thru Dekalb, IL at MP58 I believe these were empty from looking at the height of the springs. More than likely this train is returning empty hopper cars from a crude oil or natural gas production area that uses silica sand to hydraulically fracture the bedrock (Fracking) to release the gas or crude oil
The Maah-daah-hey trail in the Elkhorn Ranch Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Parts of the trail go near oil and gas development in the Bakken Formation.
The squirrel was coming up the branch in her direction & she was watching intently. When the squirrel finally saw her, it reversed direction immediately.

I can only guess at what is going on inside my backyard owl house. Frack has been in residence 28 days now. The pecan tree is leafing out, providing shade above her. For the first week she was in the opening most of the day, enjoying the warmth and view. Then she changed over to being out of sight all day and I would only see her maybe once, at random times. This behavior indicates she is sitting on eggs. On this day she peeked out at 5:19 pm. It was the only time I saw her that day and she was back inside within a minute. My first proof of babies will be when a cute, fuzzy bobblehead peeks out. I can't wait for that day. Fingers crossed.

Saw these strange new human-made landscapes on my flight from Sacramento to Houston. Not farming, not subdivisions, but many miles of rectangular patches etched out of the earth, some with pools next to them, all with roads to them. I doubt that people see these when driving on major roads - I never have - but they were very visible from a plane. Welcome to your new landscape!
To see this on Google Maps, here is the link: maps.google.com/maps?q=31.421485,+-96.326416&hl=en&am... When I first posted, I identified these as fracking marks, but many who probably know more than I, have pointed out that these look more like gas wells or oil wells. I changed the title of the photo to show my uncertainty about the actual type of resource extraction pictured here. I am not an expert on types of resource extraction, I am an ecologically concerned artist who looks out the window of planes and notices the changes humans are making to the landscape.

She looks a lot happier when the wind is not blowing her ear tufts all around. You can see more of her beautiful eyes before the sun gets higher & she starts squinting.

Hydrofracking is an issue in Sharon Springs, as it is on the outskirts of the area in New York state that would be affected by it.
Frack, one of our kittens (yes, I kept both kittens because I didn't have the heart to put them up for adoption) was feasting on a turkey carcass that's bigger than him.

NS SD40E #6338 and a pair of CN C40-8Ms roll through River Grove with a frac train interchanged from NS. This station is pretty underrated, so I made the effort to shoot it after hearing of this sand train headed towards CN.
In areas where shale-drilling/hydraulic fracturing is heavy, a dense web of roads, pipelines and well pads turn continuous forests and grasslands into fragmented islands.

In Canada, more than 200,000 wells have been horizontally fracked for shale gas or oil, primarily in the western provinces. It is now estimated that 80 per cent of new oil and gas wells in Canada are fracked. Such “unconventional” reserves exist elsewhere in Canada, but for now, a mix of geology, geography and public opposition has kept them mostly untapped. Canada is a hypocrite when it comes to fracking
These two little cuties were thrown from a slow moving vehicle yesterday. People suck.
They will be picked up by a local no-kill shelter later this week.

A wagon leaves the PNR Cuadrilla Fracking site in Lancshire UK. Protesters are kettled by police to allow traffic movement. Please note the vehicle has not used a wheel wash as stipulated in the Planning conditions for the site. No vehicle has yet used a wheel wash when leaving the site since work began in January 2017. How many breaches of planning conditions does that add up to over the months?
E' giunta mezzanotte
si spengono i rumori
si spegne anche l'insegna
di quel'ultimo caffè
le strade son deserte
desterte e silenzione,
un'ultima carrozza
cigolando se ne và.
Il fiume scorre lento
frusciando sotto i ponti
la luna slende in cielo
dorme tutta la città
solo và un'uomo in frack.
Ha il cilindro per cappello
due diamanti per gemelli
un bastone di cristallo
la gardenia nell'occhiello
e sul candido gilet
un papillon,
un papillon di seta blu
s'avvicina lentamente
con incedere elegante
ha l'aspetto trasognato
malinconico ed assente
non si sa da dove vien
ne dove và
chi mai sarà
quel'uomo in frack.
buon nuite bonne nuite
buon nuite bonne nuite
Bouna notte
va dicendo ad ogni cosa
ai fanali illuminati
ad un gatto innamorato
che randagio se ne va.
E' giunta ormai l'aurora
si spengono i fanali
si sveglia a poco a poco
tutta quanta la città
la luna s'è incantata
sorpresa ed impallidita
pian piano
scolorandosi nel cielo sparirà
sbadiglia una finestra
sul fiume silenzioso
e nella luce bianga
galleggiando se ne van
un cilindro
un fiore e un frack.
Galleggiando dolcemente
e lasciandosi cullare
se ne scende lentamente
sotto i ponti verso il mare
verso il mare se ne và
chi mai sarà, chi mai sarà
quell'uomo in frack.
Adieu adieu adieu adieu
addio al mondo
ai ricordi del passato
ad un sogno mai sognato
ad un'attimo d'amore
che mai più ritornerà.
