The pressure of the weight of this structure and everything and everyone in it is putting pressure on this post.

Think in terms of a person wearing shoes and the pressure of their weight on the surface beneath them. A 200 lb. man exerts 20 psi (pound per square inch) because the weight is supported momentarily by the heel. A 100 lb. woman exerts many more psi when she wears heels. Depending on the area of the heel, she can exert as much as 1600 psi under a 'stiletto heel' ¼ inch on a side. Support posts are much like stilettos.

This post is bending and twisting under the pressure. Look familiar? Contact Peak Structural at 303 243 3028 or www.peakstructural.com/

This foundation has both vertical and horizontal cracks. That means that a two prong approach is necessary to stablize the foundation. First, there will be piers installed to stabilize the vertical movement also called sinking or settling. Second, a wall anchor system will be installed to stabilize the lateral or horizontal movement often termed bulging, buckling or bowing. Look familiar? These walls are deteriorating and bowing in. Many of the older homes in our Denver area have similar syle foundations composed of rock or brick with mortar. Over time settling and exterior pressure on the foundation walls results in movement of the bricks or stones. Additionally, over time the mortar needs maintenance or it will also crack & crumble. Look at your foundation, if the mortar is crumbling or the brick or stones are loose, call us. We can tell you if you need tuck pointing which according to TrowelTrades.com: is an effective way of decreasing water entry into masonry.(http://www.troweltrades.com/tuckpointing_brick/)or if you also have foundation settling or, as in this case, horizontal pressure bowing the walls in.

Being 6' tall, this cold storage room is not technically basement height. The homeowners have taken care to insulate and restore so much of the cold room that our work was so easy! We simply had to clear away a little debris and build a support or sister wall. If this looks familiar, call us and we can come out and perform a free evaluation. This photo and the next one in this series show the changes in the foundation wall in respect to the 2 x 4. Wall Anchors are:

The best solution to straighten a bowing, leaning, bulging wall.

Can be installed in tight spaces and around obstacles.

Quick installation with minimal disturbance inside and out.

Recommended by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as the most effective and most affordable method of saving bowing foundation walls.

Permanent solution that restores property values.

Home Repair here is limited to the front porch. In most instances porch foundations do not have the same foundation as the house. That is why, often, they can appear to be falling away from the house or sinking. They are! Why? Because the porch foundation is not as deep and more susceptible to our Fort Collins expansive soils. Check out this regarding our expansive soils. www.denverfoundationrepair.com/foundation-settlement/colo...
