“Every bird of prey looks over its shoulder before it goes in for the kill, even a hawk. Even they know to watch their backs – every single one but an eagle. It’s fearless.”
― Michelle Horst, Wake Me Up
An eagle was once observed flying across a lake in less than one minute. The lake was two miles wide; thus the average speed of the eagle was calculated to be 120 miles per hour. This meant that speeds in excess of 150 miles per hour had been achieved during the flight.
When searching for prey, the eagle can soar to a height of one- half mile. From that vantage point the eagle can survey an area of some four and one-half square miles. Upon spotting its intended prey, the eagle will turn sharply, fold its wings into a tight, aerodynamic formation, and dive at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour!

These falcons are formidable hunters that prey on other birds (and bats) in mid-flight. Peregrines hunt from above and, after sighting their prey, drop into a steep, swift dive that can top 200 miles an hour (320 kilometers an hour).

Navanax inermis takes a bubble snail, Haminoea virescens, in a shallow tidepool at Naples Point, on the south coast of Santa Barbara County. The shell of the latter was about 1 cm long.
The feeding response is set up by contact by those translucent sensory bristles, and ingestion is triggered by contact with the pointed edges of the pharynx which appear midway through the video. Navanax specializes on other sea slugs, especially bubble snails and nudibranchs with soft bodies.

The biting mountain wind was a familiar companion, whispering tales through the ancient crags as I held my watch in the French Pyrenees. Hours bled into one another, a silent vigil among the formidable peaks where stone giants stood guard over forgotten valleys. My eyes, weary from sweeping the desolate expanse, yearned for movement, for a sign of life in the austere landscape.
Then, without a sound, a flicker of awareness shifted within the shadowed cleft of rock just ahead. A pair of keen, ancient eyes met mine, not with alarm, but with a profound, untamed curiosity. Slowly, deliberately, the majestic head emerged, adorned with magnificent, scimitar-like horns that spoke of countless seasons endured. It was an Ibex, a true sentinel of these soaring heights, a spirit of the mountains made flesh.
For a breath-holding moment, we were suspended in time – two beings observing each other across an invisible boundary of wildness and quiet respect. The world seemed to pause, and in that fleeting connection, the vast, silent beauty of the Pyrenees found its voice. This was not just a sighting; it was an affirmation of the wild, a secret shared between the stone and the soul. A memory etched as sharply as the mountain peaks themselves.

700 years ago, The Akmaddian Empire sprawled central Historica. With its formidable cavalry's lightning tactics, it was able to conquer a massive area ranging from the cool steppe of southern Avalonia to the arid scrublands of northern Kaliphlin. Among the many races that fell under its domain was a large population of centaurs. Military cooperation between centaurs on non-centaurs (referred "two-legs" by the former) was historically limited. There rare instances of archers sitting on the backs of centaurs to operate as "tail-gunners", but these were rare.
The Akmaddians implemented a new role for their centaur soldiers: drawing chariots. A centaur didn't need to be controlled by whoever was in the chariot, allowing those inside to focus on the battle. Passengers could include archers or pike men. Usually fighting in duos, these teams were trained for years to master their craft, something which would pay off as they blazed a path across the continent.
The Akmaddian God-Emperor would eventually fall in battle, and the empire would fracture as his children battled for the throne. Though the empire only lasted 20 years, its effect on central Historican culture can still be felt today

I have created a secondary Flickr account to hold all my images in full resolution, giving me a new method of viewing all my images from each session. As you might guess, there are hundreds. Viewing them all together in the lightbox style of the Flickr photostream, brings them all new life. This allows me to discover a host of old images that I had never worked on before.
Where was this one hiding? I am glad to have found it and to have processed it to be viewed here, today.

Great photography requires dedication, time and effort.
But above all there are costs involved as well.
Equipment, props and model fees, not to mention time,
are all "out-of-pocket" expenses for the artist.
If you enjoy my photography, you might like to help to support my art.
I offer over 2 hours of great videos, including many
behind-the-scenes of some of my best photo sessions,
all artistically crafted for your enjoyment.

Frescoes on the ground floor, painted in the first decades of the sixteenth century to recall the visit of 1474 of the King of Denmark Christian 1st, represent a formidable testimony of the life at the court of the warlord Bartolomeo Colleoni - Castle of Malpaga
The Castle of Malpaga is certainly one of Lombardy's most typical buildings, for architectural interest, for historical events linked to it, and for the recalls of the ancient court life that evoke a great figure of the fourteenth century: the bergamasco warlord Bartolomeo Colleoni.
In 1456 Bartolomeo Colleoni bought the Castle of Malpaga from the City of Bergamo for 100 golden ducats. But Castle, with the invention of gunpowder, is no longer defensible.
Hence, the Colleoni's great commitment is born to make it defensible with a series of interventions such as raising the walls, building housing for troops and a second moat. The castle is surrounded by houses for its armed forces, stables and fortified gates, making the complex a highly inaccessible citadel.
At least that's what I thought of the lady leading the way,but as it happened she was amused at having her picture taken. Bacolod City, Philippines.
When it was first introduced in 1940, the Corsair had the biggest engine and the largest diameter propellor of any fighter in history and the first to exceed 400 mph. Forging its reputation as a formidable fighter with the US Marine Corps during the war in the Pacific and later when operating from aircraft carriers, it continued giving sterling service during the Korean War. The Fighter Collection's Corsair (purchased in 1986) was built in 1945 by the Goodyear Aircraft Company.

如果一天過完了,
而我卻沒做些關於攝影的事,
我便覺得似乎忽略了些對我的存在極為重要的事,
宛如我忘記起床似的。
And if a day goes by without my doing something related to photography, it's as though I've neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up.

I met this larger than life ( in all senses ) character on the Spirit Way ,which is the approach to the Ming Tombs ,near Beijing , China. He dates from the 15th century & along with other statues (men & beasts) there, is considered to be among the best surviving examples of Ming sculpture.

I was a bit shocked to see this. I'm guessing the spider is dead, but I'm not sure. I know ants are tough, but these spiders are formidable. They both fell off the wall into tall grass right after I took a few shots, so I didn't get to investigate further.
At the time of year when the sun is almost at it's lowest 50038 Formidable stands out from it's scruffy stock, the grey sky and dull Winter surroundings as it runs over Relly Mill Viaduct heading 1N21, the Doncaster Works test train to Newcastle on 4th January 1985.
If all is well the "Hoover" will soon be heading back to the Western Region.
