Fossil bird footprint in sandstone in the Cretaceous of Colorado, USA.
Trace fossils are any indirect evidence of ancient life. They refer to features in rocks that do not represent parts of the body of a once-living organism. Traces include footprints, tracks, trails, burrows, borings, and bitemarks. Body fossils provide information about the morphology of ancient organisms, while trace fossils provide information about the behavior of ancient life forms. Interpreting trace fossils and determination of the identity of a trace maker can be straightforward (for example, a dinosaur footprint represents walking behavior) or not. Sediments that have trace fossils are said to be bioturbated. Burrowed textures in sedimentary rocks are referred to as bioturbation. Trace fossils have scientific names assigned to them, in the same style & manner as living organisms or body fossils.
The fossil bird footprint seen here is on the underside of a vertically-oriented, nonmarine sandstone bed in Golden, Colorado. The rocks at this site were tectonically tilted during the Laramide Orogeny, an ancient mountain-building event that resulted in the formation of the true Rocky Mountains.
Accompanying signage indicates that the trace maker was a crane-like bird.

Canada Geese fly in their well known "V" formation. They say that they fly south for the winter, but I often see them flying north. Late winter nights they can be heard for kilometers out on the frozen Lake Huron.
I was attempting to take some sunset photos when I noticed a glowing THING off to one side. I thought it was some odd lens flare at first, but when I zoomed in, it was a glowing, corkscrew shaped cloud formation. I finally realized that just below the horizon about 20 miles away, I had seen the cooling tower of a power plant earlier in the day.

Taken at Nairn Beach 15miles from Inverness. Across a large part of the beach you will find very nice and colourful rock pools and very smooth rock valleys formed over a very many years I'm sure.
