My late husband, Tony, planted a tulip garden the last fall he lived. He died that winter and never saw the tulips. They have more than tripled since his passing.
And this year, without anyone planting them, the bed has half-filled with forget-me-nots. Today would have been his BD.
His grandson will be 5 in 2 days. He and Tony's granddaughter are coming over today. After lunch, we will be planting an 18-foot wide flower maze. And of course, I will tell them what great gardeners their grandfather and great-grandmother were!

Consider this from Thomas Merton:
"There must be a time of day when the man who
makes plans forgets his plans,
and acts as if he had no plans at all.
There must be a time of day when the man who has
to speak falls very silent.
And his mind forms no more propositions,
and he asks himself:
Did they have a meaning?
There must be a time
When the man of prayer goes to pray
as if it were the first time in his life
he had ever prayed,
when the man of resolutions puts his
resolutions aside
as if they had all been broken,
and he learns a different wisdom:
distinguishing the sun from the moon,
the stars from the darkness,
the sea from the dry land,
and the night sky from the shoulder of a hill.
Johnny's last day of Speech Therapy was on Wednesday, he'd done such amazing progress in less than a year, we are so proud of him. To say good-bye & Thank you to his speech therapist we potted Forget-Me-Nots in a teacup with his school picture and a little note that said "Thanks For Helping Me Grow."

Forget-me-nots are surprisingly reluctant to grow in pots. Plant them in a normal garden, I am told, and they are soon everywhere. But in my pots they have been very tentative until now. This year they finally seem to be making a decent showing, however, including spreading to several new pots

Forget-Me-Not flowers in Ft. Tryon Park, NYC.
In a German legend, God named all the plants when a tiny unnamed one cried out, "Forget-me-not, O Lord!" God replied, "That shall be your name." In another legend, the little flower cried out, "Forget-me-not!" as Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden.
The cool English 'Forget-Me-Nots" nesseled up to the fiery Southern California bougainvillea - a picture within a picture. Diana sent me a jpeg of her flowers, and I held a picture up to mine. Then pasted the Forget-Me-Nots over the original picture. We were working on a 'collaborative' image and we were not sure it would be considered a diptych. But I do like it.
July 1st - Memorial Day Service
The service this year was special, since work has been done on the War Memorial and new flowers have been planted. A new plaque was unveiled with the names of citizens who made the supreme sacrifice, the access road has been renamed L.T. Stick Drive, and Forget-me-nots were given out as part of the service.
