This is straight off the camera, shot in Sepia mode. (Note this appears to have been somewhat diluted during upload).
This has been on my list for so long... I finally made it. The blast furnace in effect. Even the freezing cold couldn't keep me out. More to come...

Consall forge sits by the side of the Caldon Canal at Consall. These furnaces or lime kilns are all that remains of the production of quick lime on this site.
They stand 10m high and 50m long and were built between 1806 - 1816 by the Leigh family. Their design is known as a draw kiln with holes in the top for loading, and low level access for extraction, which allowed for a continuous production. They were rebuilt in 1820, and ceased operation between 1848 - 1890. They were restored in 2002.
Valley Forge National Historic Park 20 miles north of Philadelphia PA. It's huge and well used (biking (bike rentals), hiking, walking trails, trolly tours, picnic) and FREE! And very, very clean. Amazing place to spend a day.
From the site: In 1777 British strategy included a plan to capture Philadelphia, the patriot capital. To accomplish this, the British commander in chief, Sir William Howe, landed nearly 17,000 of His Majesty’s finest troops at the head of Chesapeake Bay. To oppose them, General George Washington marched his 12,000-man army from New Jersey. People often picture the Continental Army of 1777 as a ragtag bunch of inexperienced fighters. But Washington’s men fought with skill and were often on the offensive while campaigning against superior numbers of professional soldiers.
The old village forge. There used to be a carpenter's workshop next to the road just out of view to the right, now long gone. I remember peering through the low dusty windows as a child to see all of the disused old tools inside.

A pond in Old Forge, New York near a house I was staying in a couple summers ago. You had to walk a small boardwalk into the woods to come across this.
