The weather forecast was great for the day, although a chilly and windy start, but after all it was mid-October. I also needed a day out, away from the house, but where to go was the question. So how about walking a street in lower Manhattan, and how about Bleecker Street, after all it is a bit unique as it starts as a north south street and becomes an east west street. Bleecker also cuts through the historic and colorful West Village section of Manhattan. Need I say more; off I went with camera in hand.
And from that, the trip would grow, as I reached West Broadway one of the streets seemed to call out my name with a message to “turn here”, and I’m glad I did, as I entered into a gold mine of historic cast iron buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, magnificent! Several interesting photos were taken of these beautifully restored buildings, now housing “upscale boutiques” I was now near lower Broadway, and it was time for a lunch stop, and time to figure out, where to next?
As I was near City Hall, and still early afternoon, why not St Paul’s Chapel and then over to Ground Zero, and then head back up north to the High Line and back to Penn Station. The way back along the Hudson became a bit tiring, and I promised myself, I’d check the distances when I got back home. I did, and my footsteps came to an eight mile walk from start to finish, but the views were well worth it, even if my legs ached a bit.
