With a forecast for clear skies this weekend I couldn't resist a visit down to Dorset to try and capture the Milky Way.
I ended up at Portland Bill next to the lighthouse capturing this shot of the Pulpit Rock.
Pulpit Rock was intentionally left as a quarrying relic and was formed with religious associations; the large slab of rock leaning against the main stack depicted an open bible leaning on a pulpit. At the time of its creation, Portland had gained an influx of a variety of religious groups and active places of worship following the transformation of Portland Roads into a harbour of refuge. The related government works, such as the fortifications built to defend the harbour, along with the Royal Navy's increasing presence at Portland, resulted in large increases to the island's population.

Thank you so much for your visit!
Forecast for today was windy, up to gale force with high chances of rain that didn’t materialise, and clouds with sunshine was the story of the day, and the wind that made a sea of grass look like a sea. University of Bath. Skyline walk. Bath, BANES, England UK
Back to Trout Lake and an early morning frost on the Sunshine Coast. The weather called for a touch of snow on this day, which led to plenty of interesting candy coated trees. My thought on this shot was to use the red frost covered trees, to imitate a shadow, to the white frost covered trees. In turn, that would help give the illusion of dimension.
When I saw the ducks land and begin to swim, they turned and angled straight for my shot, as if it were planned. Perhaps it is true when they say, "luck favours the prepared".
A moody day looking at North Cascade National Park's Diablo Lake. For some reason there weren't many folks here, enjoying the light rain. The silence was delightfully deafening.
Seems we photographers can no longer head out in July or August for good landscape shots in the Pacific NW. The air is unhealthy and smothers the scenic views with all the continual, chronic summer wildfires. For those who love experiencing nature's gifts this is heartbreaking.
Speaking of silence, that's how this planetary crisis is being addressed by those in power. Regardless of your take on climate change the facts and damage are undeniably right in front of us. It is agonizing witnessing this tragedy grow worse with each year.......We photographers get it, may the rest wake up and address it soon.
Stepping off my soapbox now. Enjoy your Wednesday!
Your comments, faves and suggestions are always appreciated. Thank you!
Forecast looked good so we decided to try Steetley. On the way the weather app changed and the forecast didn't look so great.
After a fair amount of deliberating if we should try Flamborough or Scarborough we finally decided to stick with the original plan.
What a fantastic place. It will be a sad loss to this coastline once it's gone. The cemetery above the beach has to be the creepiest graveyard I've ever seen!
Looks like the next weekend will present us some frosty days, some sunshine would be welcome. Obernbeck,Ostwestfalen, Germany

The MetOffice have released their three month advance forecast for the UK and it is expected that, in the midst of the cost of living crisis, we are likely to face a colder than average winter. These advance forecasts are getting harder to predict with rapid arctic warming destabilising the high altitude jet streams. People in the UK are already having to choose between heating and eating as they struggle with obscene energy prices while the energy companies rake in excessive profits. It will be a tough winter ahead.
Stay safe my Flickr friends.

Beaches of the Central Coast #36 of #49.
Dragged myself out of bed at 430am this morning for a sunrise at Pebbly Beach. I use an app called Alpenglow which gives a simplified forecast for sunsets and sunrises at any given location. It just rates them graphically as poor, fair, good, great etc. It told me todays would be great. Alpenglow you owe me 3 hours sleep!! It was very cloudy and overcast pretty much the whole time, except this small moment when the sun came flooding through a break in the clouds and bathed the sand in gold. Made it the rip worth it. Well, it was worth it anyway, any sunrise is good no matter what the weather, and any beach is good , any time :)
Have a great weekend !
As fresh snowfall was forecasted, I loaded the 4x4 and drove up Black Forest. Within subzero temperatures I had a fine morning with thick fog in the valley, ice crystals on the trees and hot coffee in my cup. Enjoyed the absolute silence with very little wind and wildlife sounds and no other person around for hours. What a truly outstanding experience.

My attempt at the "Crazy Tuesday" theme "Glow".
Shot with a Carl Zeiss "Luminar 25 mm F 3.5" lens on a Canon EOS R5.
At a recent campsite, morning light started around the corner and we had to wait our turn for any warmth of the sun to reach us. Until then, everything was wet with dew, which usually means a good forecast for the day to come: "When the dew is on the grass, rain will never come to pass; When grass is dry at morning light, look for rain before the night."
Couldn't help thinking this cloud looked just like the ones you used to see on the tv weather forecast, with two rain streaks below them...
The weather forecast for Colorado is a bit frightening, though not as bad as states east of here. Winter ain’t over yet!
Was forecast 100% cloud this morning so nearly stayed in bed, but seeing i was off work i took a chance and hey presto breaks in the cloud and plenty of them
With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️
A recent immature male Halloween pennant @ the wetlands, North Georgia. We've had 2 severe storms in the last few days that blew branches off of trees and turned my lemon trees over. The yard has been cleaned up & mulched - but more rain in the forecast and temps staying cooler than normal. Rough on butterflies that were just appearing. No bear reports yesterday!
Ok it is still not may in germany. But I was crawling in my file archive from last year and found one of my usual "single-tree-images".
Just a symbol against the cold eastern weather :-)
Another cool start to the day, both in weather and trains. A trio of EMDs lead southbound loads at Zim with morning puffies overhead that added some great texture to the sky.
Another Winter in New England that, while mild over all, just won't let go. Snow in the forecast for tomorrow and sub-zero temps and "significant snow" in the forecast for the next week, as well. The gardens are happy for snow but the humans are ready for Spring.
Snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis) in the warm, sunset light.
After checking out the weather forecast the night before, and using PhotoPills to determine where the sun would be rising, I trekked to the beach in Oshawa well before sunrise, and positioned my tripod awaiting the sunrise.
It wasn't long before many of the friendly passersby started chatting. "Good morning!", "What ya' shooting?", "Great weather for photography!", etc. Eventually I got chatting with a couple of local characters who told me their engaging life stories.
Did I miss my intended shot? You betcha! So I settled for this one instead which kind of represented my thoughts for the morning.
Those short, engaging conversations left an indelible mark...
As Annie said, " The sun will come up tomorrow!"
'Warm day, life is good....I'll think about getting to the suet feeder after my afternoon nap.'
He had about a 15 minute semi-nap....have never seen such a quiet and relaxed squirrel.

Safe to say I think that Spring is really here...warm temps in forecast. We drove out to the Arboretum Friday am to see the tulips....not all are fully bloomed yet, beautiful!
Lots had the same idea, had their cameras too...
