We are creating an Art Float for Social Change at Tam Makers, to inspire more people to participate in democracy. Our parade float will reach out to youth and people of color through art, music and technology. We will present this art show on Earth Day, Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades in Marin -- and throughout California this fall, to encourage people to vote in the next election.
This unique art float celebrates mother earth with a carousel of waving hands, pulled by a giant feathered serpent. Performers will tell stories of hope on a stage decorated with scenes of a better world. Large signs will invite people to speak up and vote! You can pitch ideas for social change on the podium, or have them scroll on the news ticker.
This community art project is created by a growing team of 60+ students and makers, led by Fabrice Florin and Geo Monley, co-founders of Tam Makers in Mill Valley. We are grateful to Tam High School for hosting this project and to all our wonderful volunteers and art, civic and educational partners, for helping create this float and present it to a diverse community.
We are building this project from February to April 2018, on Thursday evenings from 4 to 9pm -- or Saturday mornings from 10am to 1pm. If you would like to volunteer, please email us at float@tammakers.org.

Desperate for changing, starving for truth
I'm closer to where I started while chasing after you
I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held on to
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you
Forgetting all I'm lacking, completely incomplete
I'll take your invitation, you take all of me now
I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held on to
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you
I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm running and not quite sure where to go
And I don't know what I'm diving into
Just hanging by a moment here with you
There's nothing else to lose, there's nothing else to find
There's nothing in the world that can change my mind
There is nothing else
There is nothing else
There is nothing else
Desperate for changing, starving for truth
I'm closer to where I started while chasing after you
I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held on to
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you
I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm running and not quite sure where to go
And I don't know what I'm diving into
Just hanging by a moment here with you
Just hanging by a moment
Hanging by a moment
Hanging by a moment
Hanging by a moment here with you

In January and February 2020 WFD in cooperation with Polio Plus – Movement against disability started a series of trainings for political party representatives to support them in becoming more inclusive of persons with disabilities and advocates for better policies for this group of citizens. The series of trainings based on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, assisted parties in addressing the needs of persons with disabilities in their pre-electoral party programmes, creating accessible political campaigns and applying improvements to their work that would make them more accessible to these citizens. The trainings took place on 17-19.01 in Gevgelija, 07-09.02 in Mavrovo and 14-16.02 in Tetovo. Representatives of eight political parties actively attended and contributed to the success of the trainings.
Musicians from all over the state of Indiana and further were brought together once again for an unforgettable night of original live music at downtown Pendleton's Word for Word bookstore. Indianapolis band Rooms, featuring members of Thin Fevers and ex-members of Letters In English, will be supported by When We Might from Bloomington, The Bears of Blue River from Muncie (featuring ex- members of Arrah and the Ferns) and Louisville's KY's own The Parade Schedule will all perform. There is a $4 cover at the door.
Additional Information: This show is part of a ongoing monthly effort to provide live, original music options to locals, kids and adults alike, as well as bringing people in from out of town to support the local economy. Barista's Emporium has offered later hours during these shows for patrons coming in from out of town. The shows so far have brought in out-of-town acts as far reaching as Philadelphia, PA.
Bands performing at Word for Word were, Rooms (from Indy), The Bears of Blue River (from Muncie), When We Might (from Bloomington), and The Paradise Schedule (from Louisville).

Painting was successful. For Kotone's burgundy red plugsuit I went for RAL tones, RAL 3005 (Weinrot) for most of the suit and RAL 7047 (Telegrau 4; I wanted to avoid pure white because it would look very harsh in contrast to the red) for the suit’s “inner sections”. Slightly lighter shades (Montana 3060 and RAL 7035) were used for subtle light effects - even though the two shades of grey cannot be distinguished at all. For good adhesion, opacity and contrast I gave all parts a thin coat with grey primer first, before adding the real color – also as thin as possible, because the OOB IP parts match (very!) tightly and too much paint would certainly impede the good fit.
The latter worries turned out to be negligible, though: the painted parts fell very well into place, even the slender "cheatlines" on the legs went nicely into their narrow slits. The hands, which each consist of four parts, two painted in different colors each to match the gloves in- and outsides, went to together more easily and precisely than expected. A real positive surprise.
However, some detail painting still had to be done, like the light grey "ribs" and the zipper, and area on the back under the "satchel", and on the legs under figure's knees. Thanks to the spray paints' good adhesion on the primer there was no masking mess, though, and that process went raltively smoothly, too.
The yellow "V" on the chest was created with generic yellow decal material, though, a more convenient solution for that prominent and bumpy area. Another yellow highlight, on the armlets (AFAIK buttons that let the plugsuit in- and deflate) was provided as a separate part molded in yellow plastic, and I used these OOB parts as intended - again, fit was perfect.
