In the language of flowers, ivy represents eternity. So does a circle. As we pass the longest day of the year, head into winter, and honor the return of light, I hold in my heart the wisdom of and gratitude for the cyclical nature of all things, for the turning of the wheel.

----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Shot taken for Saturday Self Challenge 01/08/2020 -

A Shot at Night Outside .

Well to be honest I have never done much night photography in the past other than shots of the moon , could have done that again but in the spirit of the challenge had a go at the job proper like . I did try reading the help links Val put up but kept getting a survey popping up which only came on those links - did not do it obviously but there was no way to close it other than closing flickr and coming back on again . Anyway , with what tips I could pick up there and elsewhere spent just 15 minutes on Monday night out round the side of the house trying out the task . Saw where some tweaks and adjustments were needed and did the same thing Tuesday night . Went against the advice and instead of a wide open lens I opted for f22 to get the starburst on the street lamps . All done but wouldn't it be good to do a car light trail ( it does not work with the car coming straight at you !! ) - well waited in the hope that someone would be driving home soon - and they did !!

What I did not realise was that the camera stayed open long enough to follow the path of the car right round to the left and then as the road snakes round off to the far right of the shot .

Well there we are , another SSC cracked - look in the first comment box for a view from the same place but at 90 degrees looking right .

As for Sight & Sound , there can only be one track -----

For a short time, Amtrak’s California Zephyr saw 161 on rotation. This was Amtrak’s Phase I heritage unit and replaced the previous Phase I, 156, after it hit a truck and got severely damaged. Just like 156, 161 also has been retired as a few weeks ago it caught fire in Washington D.C. and was burnt to a crisp.

Excerpt from www.historicplaces.ca/en/rep-reg/place-lieu.aspx?id=15154:

Description of Historic Place

Bronte Cemetery is located in Bronte Village between the West Street fork, south of Seneca Drive, in the Town of Oakville. The forested cemetery had its first burial in 1823.

The property was designated, by the Town of Oakville in 1987, for its heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law 1987-294.

Heritage Value

Bronte Cemetery is associated with the area's earliest pioneers. In 1830, Philip Sovereign deeded the east corner of his farm for the cemetery, after several people had been buried there, beginning in 1823. He specified that it be for people of "all orders, sects, nations and parties". Almost a third of the headstones belong to children, others to mariners. The mariners interred include, Jimmy Baker, first mate on the schooner Magellan, who died when it collided with the U. L. Hurd, in 1877 and the Dorland brothers, fishermen lost east of Bronte in the great gale and snowstorm of December 1886. Many of the early notable families in the cemetery include: Adams, Belyea, Butler, Dorland, Lucas, MacDonald, McWane, Osborne, Ribble, Sovereign, Triller and Williams.

Bronte Cemetery is a good representation of 19th century cemetery design. It is characterised by a naturalistic setting to attract and comfort the living, the use of markers and monuments to perpetuate the memory of individuals of historic importance and a park-like layout for public use. True to the original plan, gravesites are placed with separate individual markers.

Character-Defining Elements

Character defining elements that contribute to the heritage value of Bronte Cemetery include its:

- original markers and monuments, with their surviving inscriptions

- variety of styles, materials and symbolism represented in the markers and monuments

- range of size and sophistication of markers and monuments, from modest to elaborate

- park-like layout including its mature trees

- monuments

- individual grave markers with their surviving inscriptions

- location in Bronte on early settlement grounds

Or sing a sang at least.

A Scot still, but blot still,

The Chatteris War Memorial and the Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul, with a cascading poppy display, all ready for Remembrance Day.

The weather since I've been down at the shore has not been great.

It's been overcast and cool every morning.

Hasn't made me want to leap out of bed and go for an early morning walk along the beach.......I feel like I'm in a holding pattern, just waiting for the clouds to lift so I can head out with the camera.

We've been getting these small windows of sunshine, here and there though, most afternoons.

Yesterday the sun came out late day, and I took a drive back out to 2 Mile Landing where I'd seen some interesting possibilities the day before.

The lighting was beautiful when I got there, and I spent a very nice 45 minutes snapping away at several different species of birds poking around out in the marsh.

These pretty barn swallows were busy swooping across the mudflats eating flying insects.

I manage to catch this one as it briefly landed on a nearby fence, before taking off again.

Not 5 minutes after I took this shot I felt a noticeable drop in temperture, and when I turned around toward the ocean, there was a very dark fog rolling towards me. Looked like a scene out of that horror flick, "The Mist".

I quickly got in my car and headed for home.

By the time I got there, the fog was so dense you couldn't see to the end of the street.

The weather can change SO quickly on the coast!

For the second straight week, another typhoon has hit us. We still don’t have news about damages done by the second one; the first was devastating, leaving more than a 100 dead in its wake; acts of nature are beyond our control, but denuded forests and poor flood control implementation is man’s folly.

When I first looked through my bridge shots from San Francisco I decided that I was going to trash them all. It was pouring rain that night and my camera was so wet I didn't think it was going to work anymore. Even though the conditions weren't perfect it was really a fun memory with friends. Sometimes my daughter wisely reminds me that there are times in life it's not about the perfect shot but "it's for the memory Dad." I will, however, be going back here soon to try to get a perfect shot.

For Looking Close…on Friday theme of fill the frame with one flower, in which the flower must completely fill the frame, here is this petunia.

A location I've wanted to visit for some time is 'Sculpture by the Lakes' near Dorchester in Dorset. It's a sculpture park featuring many wonderful works by renowned sculptor Simon Gudgeon. The art is thoughtfully placed in the beautifully landscaped grounds, and it's well worth a visit, both for photographers and art lovers alike.

...and for all lonely people a bit of luck and hope for the coming year.

The bears come down to the shore on the edge of Cook's Inlet to find dead fish washed up on the shore to eat. They are followed around by seagulls trying to snatch bits of fish for their own meal. These are fairly large birds when you compare their size to the big bear in the image.

Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel et Kate Bush

in this proud land we grew up strong

we were wanted all along

I was taught to fight, taught to win

I never thought I could fail

no fight left or so it seems

I am a man whose dreams have all deserted

I've changed my face, I've changed my name

but no one wants you when you lose

don't give up

'cos you have friends

don't give up

you're not beaten yet

don't give up

I know you can make it good

though I saw it all around

never thought I could be affected

thought that we'd be the last to go

it is so strange the way things turn

drove the night toward my home

the place that I was born, on the lakeside

as daylight broke, I saw the earth

the trees had burned down to the ground

don't give up

you still have us

don't give up

we don't need much of anything

don't give up

'cause somewhere there's a place

where we belong

rest your head

you worry too much

it's going to be alright

when times get rough

you can fall back on us

don't give up

please don't give up

'got to walk out of here

I can't take anymore

going to stand on that bridge

keep my eyes down below

whatever may come

and whatever may go

that river's flowing

that river's flowing

moved on to another town

tried hard to settle down

for every job, so many men

so many men no-one needs

don't give up

'cause you have friends

don't give up

you're not the only one

don't give up

no reason to be ashamed

don't give up

you still have us

don't give up now

we're proud of who you are

don't give up

you know it's never been easy

don't give up

'cause I believe there's the a place

there's a place where we belong
