A female Miner Bee foraging for pollen.

Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F16, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-24EX (both flash heads on Kaiser adjustable flash shoes). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.

Technique: I'm holding on to the flower with my left index finger and thumb, and resting the lens on that same hand to keep the scene steady. As the bee moves around the flower I rotate the stem to keep it looking at the camera (helps the viewer to connect with the subject and to maximize my chances of getting a usable image). I pay attention to the area that I want to be in focus, and use my peripheral vision to compose the frame. I'm also twisting the camera in my hand, and the flower's stem, so that I can lay the flat area of acceptable focus over as much of the curves in the scene (the bee's head and the flower).

Conditions: Partly cloudy with temps in the 18C range and a light wind. Due to the breeze I was able to grab onto the stem without the bee noticing. Also when the sun went behind the clouds its metabolism would tank, making it easier to get close.

Enough depressing black and white already - so for my flickr friend Ascendingkitty - this is just for you.

Recently I've been going through some tough emotional times having lost both my parents. My friends have been my family both at home and abroad in our little flickr community. I can't thank you enough for your kind words and encouragement. Happy Holidays to all!

The original image comes from my slide collection, amassed over the past 40+ years. They are a combination of my own photographs and ones acquired over those years.

I created this Photostream in 2017 for the purpose of holding my slide collection as an archive, as otherwise they would just remain in binders and boxes, not being enjoyed by anyone, myself included.

With the boyfriend away for the weekend I was all set to catch up on some reading and housework, when m'buddy (a fellow photographer, DJ and engineer) mentioned he'd planned to attend the Pride event in Cologne, and would I like to come along?

Reading can wait.

I'd been to Cologne before of course, admiring its beautiful Dom cathedral from without and within, though I remember it having a lot more scaffolding around it. I hadn't visited the city during a time when it saw not one but two important public events: the Pride celebration of diversity and equality and love and all that good stuff, and an apparently historic football match between Germany and Italy.

The latter dominated Saturday evening. Bars were crowded but quiet, occasionally surging with excitement that ebbed crescendoed as goals were attempted, missed, completed and then equalized, culminating in sudden-death overtime that went on a surprisingly (and evidently thrillingly) long time.

Germany won. Cheers and jeers rose throughout the city, beers were clanged, strangers were hugged and kissed and for the first time in my life I found myself surrounded by hundreds if not thousands of people in a nighttime city intersection, all headbanging in delirious ecstasy to an unannounced houm-pah-pah marching band playing Rage Against The Machine on brass and drums.

A gaggle of orange-shirted Dutch football fans celebrated with their Eastern brethren by chanting "Alle Duitsers zijn homo's" to which the Germans responded with "Alle Niederländer sind Homo's" in good spirits, accurate rhythm and surprisingly consistent key.

Prescient in a way, because on Sunday that very much seemed to be borne out. I've visited and enjoyed Amsterdam's annual Canal Pride many times (our parade floats actually float, y'all) but hadn't yet seen a street parade, and I'm so glad m'buddy cajoled me into tagging along.

In the spirit of togetherness and diversity and exuberance I'd brought along my little photo printer. I sneakily befriended various couples and groups by giving them a portrait to take home, and in exchange was easily allowed to sneak to the front for a better view of the parade.

In one case, when a lady tried to give me two euros for the print and the only way I could demur was to ask for a peck on the cheek instead, the leather-clad beardo standing next to her proudly told me she was her daughter and that, by Westphalian law, I was now betrothed to marry her.

Soooo I'm rather glad I'm home and if anyone is well-versed in EU law, please let me know how far David and I will need to emigrate to escape the looming threat of that shotgun wedding, thanks in advance, please help, for real though please help thank you please.

The parade of course was more, shall we say, colorful than the wholesome and family-friendly joie-de-vivre here depicted, but I leave it to your delicate imaginations to picture how the great city of Cologne celebrates Pride!

Special series of pics for my welly bud Cruziers ;)

Trans Deep Blue (8009 R2-D2 eye) on the left of each picture, Trans Dark Blue on the right of each picture. They are identical in regular lighting (and under short-wave UV light), but under long-wave UV light Trans Dark Blue surprisingly glows a lot more than Trans Deep Blue.

Thanks so much for sending me these, Spudbricks! :D

To clarify, for those who are confused by Lego color names and similar-looking parts: Set 8009 has one transparent dish that is considered a different (unique) color from "regular" trans-dark-blue. The only other known set to have anything in that color is a watch set from the early aughts (I think).

The universe itself is God and the universal outpouring of its soul. --Chrysippus (Quoted by Cicero in De Natura Deorum)

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness

Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun

Conspiring with him how to load and bless

With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;

To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,

And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;

To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells

With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,

And still more, later flowers for the bees,

Until they think warm days will never cease,

For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells. --To Autumn. by John Keats

I've been busy with other things lately and haven't posted or commented much. My mom just recently upgraded her internet connection from dial-up to high speed and can now enjoy my flickr posts. On the phone today she asked if I had uploaded anything recently.

Mom, this one's for you.

For what may be the last weekend you'll ever see two Vulcan Bombers together at RAF Waddington, XM607, the 'gate guardian' is first in line, then the only air worthy Vulcan XH558 sits behind, waiting for the weekend display schedule for the 2014 RAF Waddington Airshow in Lincolnshire. The 2015 show is not going ahead as the runways are being relaid and it won't be completed in time for when the airshow is due.

So the next airshow is scheduled for 2016 and by then XH558 will also no longer be flying - probably.

Goals for 2012

I was tagged by Solarsenshi

Rules of the tag :

- Create a list of 5 to 12 goals about the dolls for 2012.

- Create an another list of 5 to 12 goals also about yourself.

- Tag 9 peoples or more.

Doll:

1.Complete the move into the big doll room, once everything is set up make sure everything stays organized. Take pictures.

2. Keep better track of dolly spending, write down all my doll related expenses in the notebook I bought especially for this purpose. Don't forget to write things down :p

3. Buy less dolls than last year especially Pullip, off to a good start as I haven't bought any Pullips yet this year... I may be in the process of buying two Lati Yellows though ^^;

4. Get caught up and keep up with the new Pullip releases, try to resist impulse buys and focus on getting the new releases I still need and customs!

5. Focus on completing dolls, rather than acquiring more also focus on completing projects before starting any new ones. I have a laundry list of clothes/wigs/shoes/eyes I need to complete dolls especially my bjds. Try not to add any customs to the do list unless I free up a slot either by completing a project or giving up on it... My major custom goal for the year is to have a Joker made by Requiemart.

6. Don't neglect to photograph the bjds and dollfie dreams, I still have two bjds I have never photographed and it's been forever since I have attempted any form of a group photo.

7. 366 doll project Already failed this, I'm working a lot more hours now so unfortunately I don't have much free time for anything at the moment. So I will try and take more pictures in general instead!

Self

1. Update my blog more, my goal had been three times a week but due to crazy work hours at the moment I'm lucky if I am able to squeeze one in a week at the moment ^^;

2. Try not to start collecting anything new this year.

3. Work on photography!

4. Make it through the zilla daddy's upcoming military deployment unscathed ie. no floods/fires in the apartment which would seem like a realistic goal until you realize I start a fire every time I try to cook something >__<

I don't real comfortable tagging people so if anyone wants to do this and hasn't done it yet feel free.

PS. This is Gertrude my new Paulia that I got as a belated Christmas present.

He is now as free as his beloved sea, and in the arms of the angels. i am sure he is joking with them and demanding his fishing pole...he will be remembered here for his cheerful demeanor and wicked sense of humor and love of the absurd. Kevin, you will be greatly missed.

My heart goes out to my son in law and his family on the loss of his dad...way too young.

Let me introduce you my new outfit made with reverie for Alicia. She want something around my Little Red Riding Hood... So I plan to make a new variation of this theme, with a lot of assorted machine embroideries by combining some designs.

This set include a dress, a corseted over-dress, removable puffed sleeves, a jacket, a petticoat and socks.

Here, you can see:

- The corseted over-dress, fully lined, cut in a wonderful dark shot cotton "Moor" (weaving of burgundy and emerald green threads). These piece is edged by an assortment of embroidery, trims and lace. Tiny gold eyelets and a satin ribbon lacing make the back closure.

- The apron made of antique lace lined with cotton muslin, also trimmed with tiny flowers on a scalloped spring green ribbon. A row of teal Miyuki beads highlights the top of the waistband.

- The dress made of antique white Dimity cotton fabric. All edges were trimmed with small floral embroidery and the front buttonholes band is enhanced with lace and gold metal tiny beads.

- The petticoat made of cotton muslin edged and adorned by airy french lace and red ribbon.

- The assorted embroidery socks.

I take this opportunity to introduce you an other of my new dolls customized by me during the past months.

Her name is "My Alice".

I used a FBL Ambrosial Blythe with a Jenna scalp I bought especially to become Alice.

Work done:

· Carving of her nose, lips and philtrum

· New full makeup made with artist Extra Soft Pastels "à l'écu" from Sennelier and sealed with several layers of MSC

· Sleepy eyes

· Gaze corrected

· New lashes

· Eyelids painted with artist Extra Soft Pastels "à l'écu" from Sennelier

· Four new pairs of eye chips hand painted by me using professional Golden iridescent fluid acrylics. Light Aqua (right), Light red (center), Hazelnut (left), Moss green (center)

Thank you very much for your visiting!

CONE FLOWERS FOR MOM PAINTING

WATERCOLOR & INKS

For her 96th Birthday this month...:) ♥

You needn't have gone to so much trouble for lil' old me.

Let me introduce you my new outfit made with ingenuousness for Sophia. She desired an "Sailor" dress set.

Regarding the colors, I did a study around the tones of an old doll whose the atmosphere is a very soft sailor witch I love a lot.

So a base of ivory and blue-gray with a touch of tonic red.

This set consists of a dress, an overskirt, removable collar and stockings.

Here first I present you the dress and stockings. The dress is cut in a lined fabric and trimmed with lace and ribbon at the bottom. For the stockings and the dress's breastplate, I painted myself red stripes on an ivory fabric to give an old craft touch.

I also want to introduce you one of my new dolls customized by me during the past months.

Her name is "My Bloomy" because she's very inspired by Bloomy Bloomsbury, one of my favorite Blythe.

She is a FBL original Takara Blythe "Prima Dolly Tokyo", I bought her second hand to be customized for me.

Work done:

· Carving of her nose, lips and philtrum

· New full makeup made with artist Extra Soft Pastels "à l'écu" from Sennelier and sealed with several layers of MSC

· Tiny freckles

· Sleepy eyes

· Gaze corrected

· New lashes

· Eyelids painted with artist Extra Soft Pastels "à l'écu" from Sennelier

· Four new pairs of eye chips hand painted by me using professional Golden iridescent fluid acrylics. Blue(right), Dark red (center), Pink (left), Dark green (center)

· Full reroot using locked loop method with Katsilk 83 Glitter saran, a lovely mixture of two light brown

as you love puppies!

The last day of the hunting season, December 23. -11 degrees Celsius, snow and sun for less than an hour. Afew of us thought it would be a shame not to make a last hunt. As I almost always chase to the posting line the cold wasn't a problem, but those who sat on post waiting asked if we could be quick!

This is as I and Storm reach the postline. The photographer, Gaute D. Boyum, was shooting with the camera, not his rifle. No deer this day, but a phone from a man down in the valley that with a smile could tell that that two deer had slowly walked away. Behind the postline. Well, there are a new season in 9 months.

It was a question yesterday for more photos of Storm, so this is also to meet that demand:-) You can also take a view at our daughter Anita's stream, she have a few of him too. www.flickr.com/photos/10231821@N05/

The photo is shot with a Canon. I apologize for that, but it is the camera he own..

To honor the over 2700 fallen soldiers from WWI to the present whom called Florida home, The Southeastern military Academy and Road to Victory military museum will be displaying a hand made cross for each soldier killed in action. It's a bittersweet site to behold knowing that they died for freedom yet left behind those who loved them. Perhaps one day we wont have to send people to shoot each other over petty ego issues, Oil or other rediculous reasons. Although, I fear that wont happen for many many generations. My brother Cory served in Afghanistan and I'm thankful every day that he made it back. Some of his friends weren't so lucky and each of them deserve to be honored.

I received a text this morning from my mother with pictures of the memorial cemetery. She was covering it for TreasureCoastHappens.com and thought it may be a nice addition to Project365. I agreed and put the word out that I was looking for volunteers. Lauren Milazzo volunteered herself and her two sons Aiden and Christian for the shoot. We setup to meet at 7:30pm just 30 min before sunset. I wanted to get some shots before and after the sun set but knew that working with kids only gave me a short window of cooperation.

Now, just to eliminate confusion, this was a staged shot. Lauren's husband Chris was just out of frame acting as child handler. I wanted to portray loss in today's shot and thought a mother and children in a sort of mourning state. It may be a bit morbid but I feel it was appropriate in light of the holiday. Although, you don't have to have lost to remember.

I arrived 5 minutes late due to an unforeseen vehicle situation. Lauren and family were waiting amongst the sea of crosses. Shawn and his son Rylan stopped by to observe for a bit. I was also joined by China, a German woman who just moved to the states to pursue her love of photography and see where it takes her. This was a quick way for me to meet her and see if she will be able to assist me in future shoots. China, a reserved and quite young woman didn't speak much but I more than made up for her lack of vocalization! I think with her knowledge of photography, she will be a good assistant. I said, as long as she doesn't mind me never shutting up, we'll be ok. That will remain to be seen!

We shot till just after sunset, only moving twice in the cross maze. The last shot turned out to be the winner as I had them hold the dog tag. Christian nailed the expression as he looks sad and deep in thought. I love how it turned out and know I have a new set of models for future shoots.

I feel the need to mention here that everything for this memorial was donated, including time, labor, materials, and money. There will be no profit made yet the town of Tradition couldn't find it in their hearts to donate the use of the land. They had the audacity to charge the organization a fee. I encourage anyone from the towns administration reading this to contact me to explain this. Have none of you ever lost anyone to war? You don't always have to think with your wallets. Stop being cold hearted bastards and pay a little respect.

Anyway, thats enough of that.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my work.

our challenge for this week in 52 weeks was "action blur." i knew it would be a challenge for sure, as june isn't typically as action-packed as her big sister alice. but it there is one thing i can count on june to do, it's barking! i used a slow shutter speed to try to capture the movement of her mouth. i think this turned out okay, but i probably should have used an even slower speed. i think this was 1/160.

after this weekend, i think i have found junie's nickname... the barking blur! she got to go lure coursing for the second time, and she nearly went insane. barking and pulling and barking some more! and running!! really, really fast. i was so lucky that another 52 weeker and her mom (audrey and lynda) were there and took some photos for us (well, lynda took the photos. audrey mostly just looked cute and behaved herself in between chasing that lure!) . unfortunately, they were also subjected to the intensity of june and her mouth.

Old School Sun Dying. Cloth, plants for colour and a liquid medium, combined with some late after noon light.

My mom is always working on some cool project, usually more than one. She usually making something, by hand, from scratch or using an interesting technique. This time I was in the right place and time to capture some cool pics of this process.
