The Schöner Brunnen or "Beautiful Fountain" was erected around 1385 but was replaced by a replica in the early 20th century. It has a sixty-two foot spire set into an octagonal pool. The pool is decorated with statues of philosphers, evangelists and churchfathers. The spire is decorated with statues of Electors, and Jewish and Christian heros. Set into the railings is the golden ring - turn it three times, your wishes will come true. Or so they say.

Sometimes you can catch shapes as the starling swoop around the skies, I definitely see a calf and foot with a well defined heel!
Like Smokey in The Big Lebowski, Green Heron went over the line while fishing for menhaden on Horsepen Bayou. I think the launch was intentional but it is hard to say for sure because its grip on the tree stump was a bit tenuous. Going all in is rare for greenies; usually only when they see a target out of lunging range, which is a far piece. Rarer still, this time the bird came up empty.
Falco vespertinus
This showy juvenile took up residence on a local Moor in Northumberland for a couple of weeks this Autumn.
Not much I could do with the cluttered background but a sunny morning and close views before it got busy hunting.
The first time I’ve seen this species in my county
I never looked at the speed setting only looked at the gauge and moved the iso setting. Foot tracks like this are common today, funny weather.

I was pretty happy to find a pair of these Scrubfowl foraging out in the open at East Point in Darwin. They are usually found amongst dense bushland using those huge feet & claws to dig through leaf litter.
A Hairy Footed Bee was a rare visitor to my yard when I lived in Bacoli, Italy and I have yet to see them in Lago Patria. Image taken in March of 2020.
Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (3x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI and Clarity in that order.
On view at the spur of the High Line “Brick House” is a 16-foot-tall bronze bust of a Black woman. Part of Simone Leigh’s “Anatomy of Architecture” series that merges architectural forms from different regions of the world with the human body, this bust is just as impressive to people driving up along Tenth Avenue and then underneath the sculpture.
Do you remember that episode of David Attenborough's Life Story www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p026vg7w where newly fledged albatross chicks in Hawaii were landing on the water and being picked off by hungry Tiger Sharks? Well those albatrosses were Black-footed Albatross, one of just three albatross species that routinely breed in, and inhabit the Northern Hemisphere (The other two are Laysan and Short-tailed). The other 19 albatross species generally inhabit the Southern Hemisphere, though they areprone to wandering. Nearly 98% of the global population of Black-footed Albatross nest on sandy atoll islands in the isolated Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. They are not a huge albatross but still have a wingspan around 2m and weigh more than 3kg. Only the two Sooty Albatrosses (Sooty and Light-mantled Sooty) and Black-footed are all dark in adult plumage, though many juveniles are dark. I photographed this one in Monterey Bay though they weren't especially common and always attracted attention, even from the hard and fast cetacean enthusiasts on board. You can see the namesake black feet protruding beyond the tail.
Pink-footed Geese / anser brachyrhynchus. Holkham, Norfolk. 15/01/22.
A distant view of roosting Pink-footed Geese, part of a much larger flock. Sadly, they always remain distant these days, although there is sufficient detail to identify them in this image.
Note the one 'sentry' bird who is on look-out duty. This is typical behaviour in groups like this.
