The very first cloud forest bird we saw when we got to San Gerardo de Dota. They were usually scratching in the leaf litter, almost always in pairs, but this one landed briefly at a feeder on the deck of a cafe where we were having lunch one day.

The large-footed finch is a passerine bird endemic to the highlands of Costa Rica and western Panama. Despite its name, it is not a true finch, but rather a member of the large family Passerellidae, which also includes American sparrows, juncos and towhees. It is the only member of the genus Pezopetes ~ Wikipedia

A marabou stork on Ndutu Lake can't complete for looks with her nearby glamorous flamingo neighbours, but she can still hold her head up and put her best foot forward. These are huge carrion-eating storks wth wingspans up to ~10 ft. Their featherless heads help them to stay cleaner when they are feasting on large corpses. Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania.

Falco vespertinus

One of the highlights of my trips to Hungary has always been the visits to the tower hides to watch and photograph the wonderful Red-footed Falcons.

This is the adult female.

This was my first foreign trip for over two years; back to the fabulous photo hides in Hungary.

Can greylag geese be white?

It can be white, completely gray (like the wild form), or somewhere in-between.

Are greylag geese native to UK?

There are two subspecies of Greylag Goose recognised: Western Greylag A. a. anser from Iceland, and north and central Europe; wintering from Scotland, south to northern Africa and east to Iran.

The greylag goose is a large, bulky, goose with a big head, and the largest of the grey goose species. It was one of the first species of animals to be domesticated in Ancient Egypt about 3000 years ago and is a typical farmyard goose. The domestic breed is known as A. a. domesticus and can interbreed with Anser anser. Many birds seen in the UK outside of the winter months are re-colonised from domestic populations and are often semi-tame. It is seen as a pest due to overgrazing of agricultural crops and is listed in Schedule 2 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act, meaning it can be killed or taken outside of the close season.

Red-footed Falcon, a rare bird to our shores. I'm posting this image again to show how beautiful he was.

Just heard on our local news that this wonderful little rare visitor to our shores has been found shot dead in Cambridgeshire, police are investigating.

I saw him in my home county of Staffordshire back in July and I'm just horrified at the cruelty of some of the so called 'humankind' and their actions here and abroad.

Poor little thing was only in his 1st year of life and it was hoped he would stay here and possibly even breed.

A red-footed booby on a heading into the rising sun on the way to sea for a day of fishing. It has a stout, tapered, saw-toothed bill that is well evolved for plunge diving into the ocean from heights of as high as 30 meters to catch fish and squid. Boobies, or ‘ā, have acute vision and are able to easily see their prey of fish and squid under water as they soar over the ocean. Their visual acuity is contrast enhanced by carotenoid pigments that assist seeing through the air/water interface. They are also agile flyers and able to catch flying fish skimming the ocean surface.

Pink-footed Geese were once very rare wanderers to the United States and Canada. Though still rare, sightings have become more common since the early 2000s.

Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, ME.

The lighthouse was established in 1832 to assist boats entering and leaving Port Clyde Harbor.

The original tower was replaced with the present lighthouse in 1857. The lighthouse is a 31-foot (9.4 m) tall white brick tower on a granite foundation. The tower was originally lit with a 5th order Fresnel lens. A raised wooden walkway connects the tower to land.

Photographed 10-12-2019.

Lots of foot prints =)

White Clay Creek, Delaware. White Clay Creek Park in Delaware sprawls over 3300 acres in New Castle County, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Clay_Creek_State_Park, with several entrances and miles of trails a fantastic place to get outdoors. This photo was one of my very first photos. Taken in White Clay Creek just off the 9 foot trail entrance, the well worn bike path cuts across the field where the deer come into feed in the evenings and limited hunting is opened up during hunting season.
