This Ginger Chutney is a winner recipe for Idly and Dosa. I learnt this recipe from my Mom who is a expert in making this chutney. Try this ginger chutney at least once in a while as all of you know ginger has so many health benefits. I wanted to post this recipe after Gokulashtami since most of us would have had lots of sweets and other dishes during this festival which might have caused lot of indigestion problems. This chutney would be a rescue recipe for all stomach disorders. Ginger is very useful for relieving from digestive problems, loss of appetite, nausea and helps to prevent cancer. Ginger is also said to be one of the most healthiest spices in the world.

Served, photographed and enjoyed at Hoops Dockside Fish Market
Friday September 13th, 2024
I like to think of myself as a fried fish connoisseur. Almost every Friday across the Upper Midwest you can find numerous bars and restaurant that do some kind of fish fry,
Every Friday I try to find a new place to try the fish and see how they compare to others. The fish at Hoops in Bayfield exceeded our expectations
My wife and I were spending a week in Bayfield Wisconsin. We arrived on the 13th and stopped in at Hoops Fish Market just to see what they were selling fish for. The man behind the counter told us about the fish fry they serve on the dock every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 4-7pm. These days and hours can vary throughout the year so call ahead to verify
We decided to check it out and we were blown away by how delicious it was. 2 giant pieces of Lake Superior Whitefish and French Fries. They also serve the usual condiments (tartar sauce, jalapeno tartar, malt vinegar and ketchup). You can also purchase soda, beer, and wine with your meal
Here is the recipe for this, I found it in the "Around the Southern Table" by Sarah Belk
6 Slices bacon (cut into 1 inch pieces) I diced my bacon
1/2 cup finely chopped yellow onion
1/2 cup rice
1 and 1/2 cups water
1 and 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 egg, room temperature
2 tablespoons butter, optional
Freshly grated parmesan cheese to taste
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
1. In a large, heavy skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Discard all but 3 tablespoons of the drippings in the skillet. Add the onion to the skillet and cook stirring occasionally, 5 minutes or until softened. Add rice and toss to coat. Add water and broth; cover and simmer 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let's stand tightly covered 5 minutes.
2. In a large, room temperatures serving bowl, beat the egg, immediately the hot rice and toss to cook. It is important that the rice is hot enough to cook the egg. Add bacon back to mixture and add butter if desired. Add Parmesan and black pepper to taste
