The font in Blackburn Cathedral was given by Bishop Charles Claxton, Bishop of Blackburn 1960-71 and his wife in memory of their parents. It is made in the shape of an egg cup, a symbol of new life. On top is a sculpture of the baptism of Christ by John the Baptist.
Blackburn Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of Blackburn Saint Mary the Virgin with St Paul, is one of the newest cathedrals in the Church of Englnd, having only been elevated to cathedral status in 1926. Nonetheless, the cathedral site has been home to a church for over a thousand years and the first stone church was built there in Norman times; Blackburn Cathedral was built out from the existing Parish Church of St Mary. In was in turn built as recently as 1826 to replace the parish church demolished in 1819-20 as no longer sufficient for the growing industrial town's needs.
In the early 1930s, fundraising began to enlarge the cathedral so that the building complemented its newfound importance. By 1938, enough money had been raised and work began on enlarging the new cathedral. But after being interrupted by World War Two, inflation meant that plans had to be scaled back considerably; work in the 1950s and early 1960s, the plans shifted in line with contemporary fashions. After the death of architect W.A. Forsyth in 1950, architect Laurence King joined the project and designed the distinctive lantern tower (1967), which consists of 56 different panes of coloured glass. The cathedral was declared completed in 1977, but the experimental designs and material choices of the 1950s and 1960s, as with many other buildings in the period, resulted in significant structural problems which were resolved in a final wave of building works in the 1990s.

This is an entry I made for the Jurassic Park/World Contest on Rebrick. I had a hard time thinking of a unique idea of "icon" of the Jurassic franchise, but then I suddenly remember that months ago I bumped into an online challenge asking you to recognize the font/typeface from different movies, and it hit me, as a fanatic of "brick lettering", what can possibly be a better choice than building the font from Jurassic Park? As you can see, all the pieces are connected in a legit way, which was extremely challenging given the scale, particularly in the R and A. Hope you like it!

- www.kevin-palmer.com - On my last morning in Anza Borrego Desert State Park, I drove to Fonts Point to shoot the sunrise. To get here you have to drive up a dry wash while avoiding the sandy areas. The colors were amazing, even 45 minutes before the sun rose, the clouds in the east were lit up with an intense red glow. The Borrego Badlands look similar to those found in South Dakota.

“Hallgrímskirkja is the largest church in Iceland and towers over the centre of Reykjavík. It also houses the largest organ in the country.” Completed as recently as 1986, its 74.5 metre-high spire, distinctive brutalist-expressionist Gothic style, distinctively curved spire and side wings, and prominent city centre site have ensured it is already “an important symbol for Iceland's national identity”.
The church is named after the Icelandic poet and cleric Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614–1674), author of the Passion Hymns.
State Architect Guðjón Samúelsson's design of the church was commissioned in 1937. He is said to have designed it to resemble the trap rocks, mountains and glaciers of Iceland's landscape, in particular its columnar basalt "organ pipe" formations (such as those at Svartifoss). The design is similar in style to the expressionist architecture of Grundtvig's Church of Copenhagen, Denmark, completed in 1940, which has been described as a likely influence, alongside the expressionist Kirche am Hohenzollernplatz in Berlin, Germany (completed in 1933).
Architecturally, Hallgrímskirkja consists of three parts: The tower with the distinctly curved side wings which house service facilities, a nave in more traditional architecture, and a sanctuary at the other end of the nave, whose cylindrical shape has been described as evoking Viking war helmets.
It took 41 years to build the church: construction started in 1945, but the landmark tower was completed long before the whole church was finished. The crypt beneath the choir was consecrated in 1948, the steeple and wings were completed in 1974, and the nave was consecrated in 1986. The church was originally intended to be less tall, but the leaders of the Church of Iceland wanted a large spire to outshine Landakotskirkja (Landakot's Church), which was the cathedral of the Catholic Church in Iceland.
The church has a carillon of bells at the top which ring on the hour.

This rather interesting Mercedes Vario truck on what appeared to be older DIN-font diplomatic-series plates, was parked along Leipziger Straße. Given what type of vehicle it was, and the age of the plate, I have doubts about if this vehicle is linked to an embassy, however the coding fits with being used by non-accredited diplomatic staff at the Algerian embassy, located 6km north to where I spotted this vehicle, in the north of Berlin. The vehicle was also parked outside the Bulgarian embassy, adding to the confusion I must say. Are the plates of the 'diplomatic' type, or of another type which I'm not aware of?
*Edit*: The vehicle is not diplomatic-registered instead being registered to the regional/local authorities/state government, which used a similar format to the diplomatic-plate system, before going to an all-numerical 1-5 digit system, presumably when the 'Euroband' plates were introduced in Germany. These plates are apparently very rare to see in Berlin (maybe in the whole of Germany too?). I presume that the code '16' is relevant somehow. Many thanks to TIMRAAB227 for clarifying this registration, though any more information on this plate-type would be greatly appreciated.

Die Entladung findet ca. acht Stunden nach den Regenfällen statt, wobei die Quelle auch wieder sehr schnell versiegt, ca. nach dem dritten oder vierten Tag. 2011 hat sie nur 2x gesprudelt.

The Font Mágica are the fountains located in front of the Palau Nacional and they form the centerpiece of a nightly musical fountain show in summer.
A fifteenth century font with a carved octagonal bowl on an octagonal stem. In the simple parish church of St Andrew, Winterborne Houghton in Dorset.

Font realitzada amb pedra de carreus.
De planta quadrada. En un dels costats hi ha tres aixetes, a l'esquerra hi ha una maneta per fer pujar l'aigua, damunt les aixetes hi ha la data de 1866 i envolta la font una cornisa bastant ampla. A la part superior de la font hi ha uns elements decoratius que rematen l'estructura.
Té una estructura semblant a un templet, però tancat.
Font de construcció recent en el lloc on hi havia hagut un pou, fet que recorda el nom del carrer (c/ del pou). La forma de la font respon a la necessitat de cobrir la forma del pou.
Durant molt de temps fou molt important pel poble ja que era lloc de reunió per a molts veïns.
Encara que la construcció sigui popular recorda a les fonts barroques però d'estructura més senzilla.

El pou cobert.
Que estava situat al carrer homònim amb la Casa de la Vila i l'església al costat.
L'edificació, d'estil neoclàssic, que cobreix el pou, és bastida amb carreus de pedra ben escairada i polida, amb aparellat isòdom i a trencajunts i té planta rectangular. La coberta és coronada per un floró d'estructura bulbar de prop d'un metre d'alçada. Hi ha dues aixetes o canelles de bronze accionades per una palanca. Servien per subministrar aigua potable d'ús domèstic.
A l'altra banda hi ha el manubri de ferro que accionava el mecanisme per a elevar l'aigua.

The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc (Catalan: Font màgica de Montjuïc, Spanish: Fuente mágica de Montjuic) is a fountain located at the head of Avenida Maria Cristina in the Montjuïc neighborhood of Barcelona, Catalonia. The fountain is situated below the Palau Nacional on the Montjuïc hill and near the Plaça d'Espanya. The fountain, like most of the surrounding developments, was constructed for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition.
The Magic Fountain was designed by Carles Buigas, who had designed illuminated fountains as early as 1922. The site where the fountain was constructed was the previous location of The Four Columns. The columns, representative of the Catalanism movement, were demolished in 1928 under the rule of Prime Minister Migel Primo de Rivera[1] and were re-erected in 2010 a few meters away from the original location.
Buigas submitted his design a year before the exhibition, with many calling the plan too ambitious, with too little time to complete. The construction project utilized over 3000 workers. The first show took place on May 19, 1929, the day before the start of the Exposition.[2] The fountain was badly damaged in the Spanish Civil War and did not operate until 1955, after Buigas oversaw needed repairs.

Avec une neige toujours autant sculptée par le vent qui par chance était absent ce matin sur les crêtes.
La pianta del pero riesce a dare raccolti generosi e di buonissima qualità per decine di anni. Se le condizioni sono adatte questa pianta è in grado di vivere anche un secolo.
Il pero è caratterizzato da una chioma di tipo conico; la corteccia è di colore grigiastro ed e soggetta a frequenti fessurazioni. La grana del legno è fine e dal colore bianco rosato; per queste caratteristiche è particolarmente apprezzato in ebanisteria.
Le foglie hanno una colorazione verde brillante, sono di forma ovale e glabre. La fioritura, caratterizzata da numerosi fiori bianchi avvolti in un mazzetto di foglie, avviene in prevalenza alle estremità dei rami. I fiori sbocciano a fine marzo e la fioritura riesce a durare fino a venti giorni. Purtroppo questo è un limite per la coltivazione, infatti un periodo così prolungato può esporre la pianta a gelate e brinate, se coltivata in zone fredde.
