Bookstore Gig

I am at Gramercy Books in Bexley where Eric is performed with Arkadiy and read from his memoir. I heard things about Eric I have never heard before! I was blown away! I helped them set up and set levels but there really wasn't any sound for me to run. I thought I'd end up going to the Songs At The Center taping but Eric got done with enough time for us to load up his gear in his SUV so I didn't have to take it over separately.

I spent the first part of today recording the initial tracks for the Podcast Theme. I threw out my original idea because it had a minor feel and really would have been a cool rock riff for me to jam over. I went with a very simple two-chord progression in D (because Hans Zimmer said D is his favorite key) with a three-chord bridge. I laid down two tracks of acoustic guitar with my Guild D-25 recorded with an Audio Technica AT2035. Then I tried a few bass line ideas with the Music Man Sting Ray. I must have recorded 10 takes of bass before I was "happy".

I fired up the Blackstar and did the clean Strat guitar with that. I tried a chunking distorted rhythm guitar with it but I don't think it works.

I did all the recording on my Tascam DP-24 but I won't be able to assemble the multiple files for the episodes and intro with that. I need to get a new interface and something on the laptop to do multi-track editing. So, after my time with Eric I went to Guitar Center and bought a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 interface. dublab’s 23rd Anniversary Party is the organization’s annual fundraiser – proceeds from the event go towards the station operation and towards supporting its programming and non-profit mission. As a listener-funded 501 (c) (3) non-profit radio station, dublab has become a cultural institution in Los Angeles, using radio to foster a creative community of music lovers, musicians, and DJs that has expanded to affiliate stations in Japan, Spain, Germany and Brazil. dublab programs go beyond its core radio project with live events such as the Alice Coltrane concert that took place at Grand Performances on August 27 and its signature annual ambient happening Tonalism that took place in July at Descanso Gardens.

This year’s celebration will take place from 6pm to 11pm at 2220 Arts + Archives (2220arts.org) followed by an after party at a secret location that will go from 10pm till late…
