Aquilegia (common names: granny's bonnet or columbine) is a genus of about 60-70 species of perennial plants that are found in meadows, woodlands, and at higher altitudes throughout the Northern Hemisphere, known for the spurred petals of their flowers. The genus name Aquilegia is derived from the Latin word for eagle (aquila), because the shape of the flower petals, which are said to resemble an eagle's claw. The common name "columbine" comes from the Latin for "dove", due to the resemblance of the inverted flower to five doves clustered together. The Colorado Blue Columbine (A. caerulea) is the official state flower of Colorado. Large numbers of hybrids are available for the garden, since the European A. vulgaris was hybridized with other European and North American varieties. Aquilegia species are very interfertile, and will self-sow. Some varieties are short-lived so are better treated as biennials.

This place has a new focus. It used to be a 19th century Methodist chapel (a house of God), now it is being converted into residences for people. From theology we are moving, as it were, to anthropology. The reasons behind this transformation are, as one would expect, complex. One factor is that the congregation had a very high average age, mostly seniors and a very small number of baptisms, which, in the end, led to the closure of this chapel. The congregation had died out. Life in our village, of course, is and will be going on, just without the Methodists. We still have a small Baptist congregation and an Anglican chapel. The vast majority of our village, well over 90%, do not attend church. They are usually not non-religious, but they express their spirituality in very different ways. But that is another story. The Wild Cat - Felis Silvestris. Britains' only remaining large wild predator but their genetic inheritance is being diluted by interbreeding with feral domestic cats. The cats I was fortune enough to be able to photograph are part of the Conservation Breeding Programme in order to reintroduce more of the true genes back into the Highlands of Scotland.

i'm making faces out of fruit today for photo purposes. fun! my first victim's are peaches! white ones :] i also met with a bride to be and groom today for a meeting. the best part of the meeting was when the bride said to the groom "is there anything you want to ask?" and groom says "no, i'm just hungry" and laughed. :D

My wife hiking the Scenic Point Trail in Glacier National. She is a trooper, as she has asthma but still loves to get out and hike in nature and explore the mountains. These high elevation hikes can be difficult as she takes her time and conquers the mountain trails.
