Found in tall grasses, and in open woodland from mid May to late June.

An Eastern Amberwing takes a brief break.

Hand held Manual Focus Bracket comprising of around 60 images

After emerging from it's cocoon, this male io moth spent the day drying it's wings a the tip of a crape myrtle stem. After a full day of getting the opportunity to photograph this beautiful moth, it flew off just after sunset.

Its hovering flight is a distinguishing feature; it flutters its wings so quickly that it can appear orange and makes an audible hum.

Physocephala rufipes a member of the Conopidae species of thick-headed flies. Looks threatening but is totally harmless as an adult feeding on pollen. Its Larvae are not so nice as they are parasitic on Bumblebee larvae.
