Either way, it is its FlyDay Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Irrespective of what Mr Autotag might wish to believe)
A quick stroll around the cap park late this afternoon. Managed to catch this fly as it stretched its wings. It's on an Agapanthus leaf.
Happy Flyday everyone.

I presume "it" is a "he" from the antennae.
I was quite pleased with the general look of this picture and the detail on the head. Those "fangs" are fascinating.
Happy FlyDay everyone!
I am not complaining.
Neomyia cornicina posing on an Iris flower.
Green, purple, yellow and a puddle.
It is a male, hoping to find a female and that their babies will live in the mushroom where they will feast on the vegetarian babies of other flies... Happy Flyday!

It's Flyday once again, and what earthy good is a Flyday without a fly. Another one of the pesky flesh fly, trying it's best to look benign. A 2-image, handheld focus stack.
Happy Flyday Friday. HFF
PLEASE: Do not post any comment graphics, they will be deleted. See info in my bio.

The last photo of the fly on the Daisy. Now I need some more flies, lol.

A "fungused" fly in the characteristic pose on a golden foxtail grasshead.
This fly has been infected by the fungus Entomophthora muscae. This fungus specifically affects the fly's brain and changes its behaviour. It makes it climb to the top of the plant where it dies and the fungus then sporulates (which can be seen in this photo) .
The highest point is best for the fungus as it lets the airborne spores get the best release. The airborne spores can transmit to other flies by landing on them but interestingly it can also transmit more directly when male flies attempt to mate with deceased females infected with the fungus.
Anyway, I hope everyone's FlyDay is going better that this fly's one!

Whether it is a late Spring equinox celebration, or religious stuff including the veneration of the goddess Eostre (from whom the term Easter comes), the Christian resurrection, the end of the Jewish Passover or whatever other possible reason to celebrate ...may you all have as many eggs and rabbits as you could ever wish for.
The Moldy Peaches - Little Bunny Foo Foo
I saw a 1cm-long black fly land on a leaf and thought "That won't male much of a photo". Then I remembered that you can discover all sorts of wonderful colours you can't see with the naked eye when you look through a macro lens. Wow, it's not "just" a black fly! I've no idea what species it is but I definitely didn't see all those colours through my own eyes. Cropped from 3:2 ratio to 4:3 maintaining the height of the original photo. Taken using the pop-up flash - a rare event for me - set to 1/32 power, with diffuser, on account of the thick overhead cloud.
STOP PRESS: I've just ID-d this as an Orange-bearded bluebottle; what a name!
