Taken in the early morning at GB Gruffy on the Mendips in Somerset.
Found this fly very close to a still flowering devils bit scabious and I was hoping I could get that effect with the flower filling the entire dew drop, however, I think in this case, the flower was too small to have the desired effect, you can just about see it in the drop on the fly's head!!.
Still it makes for a nice alternative colour backdrop to the usual greens and browns and it's flyday Friday!

Hover flies (Allograpta oblique) go by several other names, including syrphid flies, flower flies, and drone flies.
This Hover Fly is on Asclepias incarnata (swamp milkweed) "Ice Ballet". Hover flies are true flies, but they look like small bees or wasps. They are the helicopters of the insect world, often seen hovering in the air, darting a short distance, and then hovering again. These beneficial insects are valuable tools in the fight against aphids, thrips, scale insects, and caterpillars.

Well it's a New Year, and we all know what day this is, right. It's... Flyday damnit!
So here's a triple header (no pun intended... well yeah!) to kick things off for Happy Flyday Friday. HFDF!
Three's company and a crowd. It's a fly thing, ok, so no judgement. ;-) This is in situ, not photoshop'd, a 2-image handheld stack.
The issue that I'm running into with these stacks, is that my flash does not fire for each shot in the sequence, so I'm looking to purchase an external battery pack for faster recharge time. Godox flash(s), so possibly the Godox PB960 pack. Anyone using this?
