making a cosmic journey

The foreground is an old road covered with wind-blown sand. At right in the background is the same road, devoid of sand.I walked on this road during my loop hike.

The famous five are in the moment of preparation Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster.

The recipe:

"Take the juice from one bottle of that Ol' Janx Spirit.

Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V

Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture (it must be properly iced or the benzene is lost).

Allow four litres of Fallian marsh gas to bubble through it (in memory of all those happy Hikers who have died of pleasure in the Marshes of Fallia).

Over the back of a silver spoon float a measure of Qualactin Hypermint extract, redolent of all the heady odours of the dark Qualactin Zones.

Drop in the tooth of an Algolian Suntiger. Watch it dissolve, spreading the fires of the Algolian suns deep into the heart of the drink.

Sprinkle Zamphour.

Add an olive.

Drink...but very carefully."

cosmic form moves towards the stars

This time trying some milky water dropping into clear water to create some light-catching translucence. The blue is from the gelled flash to camera right. The orange is a gelled flash behind the drop. Photoshop for levels, saturation and sharpening only.

A very subtle problem with the flash arrangement became apparent here, though. I'll have to fix that in the next ones. Who can be the first to spot it?

sunlight is the best light of all.

The width of the scene is about three feet (0.9 m).

This was shot in 2014 during an exploratory hike to prepare for scrambling up to the top of The Great Wall in Arches National Park. I didn't get very far because of the lateness of the day.

A year later I followed the same route and completed the scramble on a day that was mostly sunny. In the album, the sunny photo of my car marks the start of the 2015 hike.

Capturing the intricate play of oil droplets reflecting light against a blurred background, this scene evokes a vibrant atmosphere reminiscent of the eclectic vibes found in contemporary pop music.
