The following day (Saturday) we received a good amount of rain and the river once again was under flood warnings (a very frequent occurrence this year). So this area probably looked very different by Sunday. Thanks for looking.
shooting during a snowfall is just so much fun

Willow tree with spider-like branches in the Amper floodplain forest on a dreary November day. I am of the opinion that this motif comes better in black and white than in color and therefore converted. Another test with the new Nikkor Z 40mm, f 2.0

The end of this month should see the end of this year's monsoon, but nothing is certain as the Earth enters the end of its present ice-age cycle... unless of course you believe the news-media!
The top of Australia in the wet season, where there is nothing but mangroves, salt-water crocodiles and river systems running out to sea.

shallow basin first dug 60 yrs ago as a means to alleviate flooding . Now allowed to silt up as a different understanding of natural processes has ongoing credence. Note:photo taken on the West Bank of the R.Trent opposite Knaith.

Picturesque Dutch landscape with cows grazing in the floodplains of the river Waal. The photo was taken from the Waaldijk near the Gelderland village of Nieuwaal, municipality of Zaltbommel.
I think it resembles an 'old master painting' somewhat.

The Darling River's channel is marked by the line of riverbank gum trees just below the horizon. In the foreground, floodwater has spilled out onto a less elevated part of the adjoining floodplain. About 30km southwest of Wilcannia in Western NSW.
More high water, this time a few kilometers downstream from Nijmegen, between Deest and Druten The river is normally beyond those trees.
Located in the centre of the park, the Yellow Water wetlands form part of the South Alligator River floodplain and are one of the park’s top ‘must see’ attractions. A dawn cruise followed by a full hot breakfast at Cooinda Lodge is an experience not quickly to be forgotten.

Magical moments of nature. When I roamed the day before yesterday on a sunny morning through the floodplain forests of the Amper my gaze remained on this trunk on whose bark the morning light produced beautiful reflections and the reeds from last year flashed in the sunlight.Currently, I'm only using the new Nikkor 2.8/26mm on the Z7 and it's huge fun to crawl through the brush with just this small inconspicuous lens on an already lightweight camera, without a tripod.

Once again the waters in The Netherlands got tamed, with thanks to hundreds of levies, dykes and ingenious engineering systems designed to protect this low lying country.

"Typique de cet espace si plat, (on entend Brel chanter ce pays!) pas si facile à photographier et en "rejouer" l'ambiance... réussi ici, dans cette tonalité doucement grise, cette mare lumineuse et miroir attirant les regards." (VINCENT / www.flickr.com/photos/58769600@N07/)
This tree stands in the floodplain of a small northern river. I very often rested in the shade of this big tree with my faithful hunting dog Spiel. Sadly, on 16 June he left on the rainbow to the Land of the Eternal Ball Game. My heart breaks for him.
In memory of my departed Friend I took this picture, every time someone looks at it they will know they are remembered on Earth.

God take care of you!
Cobwebs on your face, getting ticks, getting your legs caught in the thorns - but in the end it's worth it. Autumn morning light in the floodplain forest of Amper.

Minaret in the distance is one of four towers of Songkhla Central Mosque. This red-clay trail is an embankment alongside a major canal to the left and a floodplain to the right. The canal eventually empties into a huge lagoon, which in turn sometimes floods the floodplain to the right. The large metropolitan city of Hat-Yai is around 3-miles directly behind the tower you see here.

Floodplains of the Dutch river Waal. The photo was taken from the Waaldijk on the Herwijnense Bovenwaard near the village of Herwijnen, municipality of West Betuwe, Tielerwaard region of the Betuwe, province of Gelderland. The small lake, a so-called clay pit, was created in the last century after the excavation of clay for the brick industry. There was still some morning mist when the photo was taken at the end of the summer season.

One of my favourite photo-spots, where the canal looks like it's heading to the distant mountains, but actually veers left to empty into an inland-sea bigger than Singapore! The wide-open sky is also endless here, as there are few buildings due to this area being a natural floodplain, which means it's great for birding too.
