Pavshinsky floodplain is a microdistrict of the city of Krasnogorsk, built in the river floodplain of the same name on the border with Moscow.

I like cozy little houses for one family, away from the noise of the city. But for now I have to live in this city, I hope to be able to move ... someday.

This is a view from the top of "Mount Celery" (elev. 80 ft, 24m), the highest point in the county, and one of the highest points in Florida. (The view in any direction is flat to the horizon.)

Celery Fields is a 300-acre flood mitigation area, owned by Sarasota County, Florida. In 1995, the land, which previously was used for celery farming, was acquired by the County. They excavated several water retention ponds, and the removed soil was piled up alongside.

By 2011, there were ideas for use of the area, including building a recycling center, opening up industrial or retail areas and others. But the Sarasota Audubon and Sarasota County realized the potential for a recreational and nature site. Hence, the development of Celery Fields Nature Area, and the creation of "Mount Celery".

The Pantanal

South America

Looking through my archives, I had to go all the way to the Pantanal to find this image of a white horse grazing (Equus ferus caballus).

The Pantanal is a natural region encompassing the world's largest tropical wetland area, and the world's largest flooded grasslands.

It is located mostly within the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, but it extends into Mato Grosso and portions of Bolivia and Paraguay. It sprawls over an area estimated at between 140,000 and 195,000 km2 (54,000 and 75,000 sq mi). Various subregional ecosystems exist, each with distinct hydrological, geological and ecological characteristics; up to 12 of them have been defined.

Roughly 80% of the Pantanal floodplains are submerged during the rainy seasons, nurturing a biologically diverse collection of aquatic plants and helping to support a dense array of animal species.

Okavango Delta

Botswana

Southern Africa

Happy Caturday!

Lions are commonly seen in most parts of Botswana. Even though lions don't like water, sightings of lions in the northern Okavango Delta are spectacular. The lions have learned to thrive there - mainly due to the large buffalo population.

The Lions of Botswana have torn up the rule book as we know it. Lions don't like water, lions seldom, if ever, hunt elephants, hippos and lions need water to survive - these are some of the ideas that we have learnt over the years. In Botswana lions take to the water regularly, lions do hunt elephant and hippo and in some areas of the country lions can go for months without drinking water.

Home ranges of the lions vary in size for the same reasons - availability of food. In the arid areas the home ranges will be much larger and a great deal of overlapping with neighbouring prides occurs.

Lions in the Okavango Delta are adept at negotiating the channels and floodplains in order to hunt. Prey moves between the islands and lions have to cross the water to follow. Because of this water activity the front quarters of the Okavango Delta lions are more developed than those of other lions. From buffalo to hippo and even adult elephant. there are prides that have adapted to preying on all. – Internet

The floodplain in Aman Park Is quite beautiful in the morning sun!

Castle Doorwerth is located on the banks of the Rhine River, between Wageningen and Arnhem. The castle’s immediate surroundings are beautiful; it is located at the point where the steep wooded lateral moraine of the Veluwezoom merges into the broad floodplains of the Lower Rhine. In between the two geological areas lies the beautiful medieval castle, surrounded by abundant moats. The castle is mentioned in historical documents dating back as far as 1260, making it one of the oldest castles in Holland.

The oldest tree in Holland

Since 1280, the castle has grown to become a picturesque complex of buildings with a ward and an outer ward. During the Second World War, the castle suffered major damage, and after undergoing restorations for a period of 37 years, it is once again the beautiful water castle it used to be.

One of the oldest trees in Holland is also located on the Castle Doorwerth grounds. The trunk of the Robinia (acacia) tree has a circumference of seven meters (almost 23 feet), and was planted around the year 1600. Two similar trees were destroyed during the Battle of Arnhem.

De Wiessenbergse Kolk maat deel uit van een zeer gave uiterwaard, met daarin een oeverwal met kom. Het is een van de weinige uiterwaarden waarin komkleigronden voorkomen.

floodplain forest, december.

I was searching this morning beside the floodplains to the river clubtail dragonfly. The floodplains are beautiful at the moment, i saw a lot of these crawling their way up right out of their nymph but there could only be one winner and that was this one ;-) I was wondering why he's getting up to the top. Like this it's an easy snack for the birds but ok, at least he had good company :-)

Vagrant darter and a lady bug - steenrode heidelibel uitsluiper.

Helaas geen rivierrombout aangetroffen, het water staat ook veel te hoog door de hoge afvoer en de strandjes dus onder water.

Thanks everyone for visiting my stream :-)

In summer, storks stalk around here in search of prey. But now, in winter, only a black alder brimming with hoar frost sways in the light of dawn.

If you look very closely, you can see a stork's nest on a church tower, which is visible on the horizon.

Aman Park and Sand Creek are unique in that the park and creek are located in an area with very sandy soil. The tan color of the sand enhances the brightness of the creek. The area, with it sandy soil is a great growing medium for trees, however, it makes for a poor anchor and there are falling, and fallen trees throughout the park.
