The 2024 Challenge was to build a parade float. Seeing as it is still the Year of the Dragon, I decided to build a Chinese dragon. I wanted to make it look more organic, so I got the idea to use the flippers as scales... and then came the job of figuring out how to attach them. I settled on octagonal bar frames alternated with 2x2 round plates, with flex tube running through the middle.
The roads for each parade float were all built with a MILS base so when all the challenge builds were placed in a row, it looked like a real parade!!
Just seconds after touchdown in Juneau. They say one in ten residents of Alaska is a pilot. Airplanes are everywhere, and most are equipt with floats. Some have skiis. I'm sure most of them switch back and forth, depending on the season.
There they go! This crew member was the floater. She talked into her walkie talkie, paced a lot, and then spent some time time before each take getting the car drivers "psyched."
