Flensburg Port - water reflections

I can't help but think back to the 70s and The Floaters song 'Float On'.

An interesting aquatic creature to observe - by utilising the hairs on their legs that repel water and capture air, the tiny water striders appear to stand on the water's surface... the captured air allows them to float and move easily.

And how fast they zip about at times.

Float On, Kienbach

As a child, I have always had a fascination with airplanes. Perhaps it was because my mother worked at the airport and I spent a lot of time there watching them take off and land while waiting for her to get off of work. I don't know what it is about them, but I find them a beautiful piece of machinery that can take us on fascinating adventures.

I remember how excited I was the first time I visited Yellowknife 20 years ago and got a chance to see float planes up close and personal. It wasn't until this year in Fort Simpson that I got a chance to fly in one.

This image from Yellowknife this summer is one of my favorites. Come aboard and take me to a different land!

It almost seems like it is floating in the air. So perfectly still.

Some kelp washed up on the beach on Morro Strand State Beach in California.

Kelp (brown algae seaweed) possess gas-filled floats known as pneumatocysts that enable fronds to float on the water surface, maximizing exposure to sunlight and enhancing photosynthesis. The gas content of the pneumatocysts can vary, but are usually filled with a combination of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. Depending on the species, the kelp may contain one large pneumatocyst or several smaller pneumatocysts distributed throughout the kelp.

After 3 tries and more than 20 hours of driving, I finally got the shot that I've been dreaming of. A big Thank You to Nick (Steinberg Nicholas) on his hospitality and putting me in the right location to photograph this event. Check his work when you get the chance folks, a great guy, and a very talented photographer.

Happy weekend everyone! My day trip to the beach was fun but exhaustive. Took pics but mostly of my sis and her friends so will just post this and wish you all a great weekend.

This photo accurately describes how I feel in school right now: just kind of floating through as I wait for bigger and better things to come!

Well here is the thing....after a month of back and forth of rebuilding my computer 3 separate times, I'm finally operational. I've not wanted to do any shooting if I couldn't work the shots, so this is another oldie I was experimenting on as I have been tracking down and re-loading all of my software.

Autumn festival in Kawagoe near Tokyo

Today I thought I'd break up my stream of normal landscapes and see how something a little different fares. I drove down to Chico looking for some autumn color in Bidwell Park. Chico is pretty well known for all of it's beautiful trees and we saw many on the way to the park through the city, but didn't find much where we ended up in the lower section. It does have a pretty unusual feature. The creek flowing through has a cement pool with a dam they can raise to fill the pool from the creek.

So the dam was up and the pool was covered with fall leaves slowly slipping by in the current. So I litterally laid down on the edge of the pool/creek with my 50mm f/1.8 and was able to get very close to this cluster of leaves.
