I got a kick out of reading about the Grey-headed Swamphen in Wikipedia: “The grey-headed swamphen was introduced to North America in the late 1990s due to avicultural escapes in the Pembroke Pines, Florida area. State wildlife biologists attempted to eradicate the birds, but they have multiplied and can now be found in many areas of central and southern Florida. Ornithological authorities consider it likely that the swamphen will become an established part of Florida's avifauna.” Well, those authorities were certainly right as these guys are seem pretty much omnipresent in wetland areas in the parts of southern and central Florida that I regularly explore. Fortunately, they are good looking. (Grey-headed or Purple Swamphen – Porphyrio poliocephalus) (Sony a1M2, 400mm lens with 1.4 extender providing 560mm, 1/2000 second, f/4, ISO 1250)

These birds are quite common but usually very shy, this time I was lucky to get close enough for a reasonable "in flight" capture

Part of a flock of Black Tailed Godwits. Such beautiful birds. Cropping is so tricky. There is always half a bird missing somewhere. Wirral. Gilroy LNR, West Kirby.
A Roseate Spoonbill passes overhead in flight.
This one was photographed in northern Florida - some 'informed' sites still list them as south Florida birds - which certainly isn't true any longer. Populations are very much reduced in traditional southern locations - they are only able to feed in shallow water (short legs) and as climate change and changing waters (rising salty sea water levels) in Florida 'change' things, the Spoonbills adapt. So their numbers don't seem reduced overall, just relocated.

From Windhoek I flew to Kulala airstrip on this 12 seater aircraft. As I was the only passenger, I could have almost any seat, including the co-pilot's seat. I opted to fly up front with the pilot, and so we flew off into the Namibian desert together.

These are the last birds of the summer to breed and raise little goldfinches. Since these primarily eat seeds (granivores), they wait until late July. Isn’t that clever?
I should have increased the shutter speed to capture the feathers in flight better.
