Hi everyone. I am taking a break from flickr so that I can raise this little guy. He is a very demanding pup and it takes a lot of attention and patience to make sure he grows up right. I still browse thru photos here and there... but my time at the computer has diminished dramatically. As he gets older, and I figure out ways to keep him occupied, I will be back here more and more.
**Actually I just gave him a bacon flavoured teething bone and it's working wonders. Ahhhh, peace and quiet!**
While cathing up on my flickr buddies photos I came across this on a couple of their streams. The new changes sound awful and to show my support that I am against the new version of Flickr I am posting this.

I'm a big fan of Flickr Commons, but sometimes it's hard to get a feel for just how much there is in it.
So I've been using the flickr API to create an interactive map, timeline, and this small web app that produces summary stats both for The Commons as a whole, and for individual members (currently 56 of them).
Flickr made me do something that I thought I would never do....

The new changes took away so many features, and the one that stayed are buggy, The layout is ugly, the whole idea of flickr is being dismembered. I personally do not like even this version. I miss the maps, and time of posting the picture, and several others, also for us living in places with slow internet it takes ages to load. But I guess the ship has sailed on that one. But I really want to take a stand on this one, as the few days I was forced to be on it, were nightmare. Just posting a comment took several re-doings, because of the bugs
Too much Flickr will fry your mind!

I am sorry to say, I am declaring Flickr a complete lose. Our campaign has failed to gain the momentum needed to gain the number of signatures needed to make a impression on the Flickr Staff. In addition, the Flickr team is taking proactive steps to Ban any users they know have signed the petition.......
well: if this might be the case that the flickr team will acting like this i will be just speechless.
Out the front window, my wife noticed icy snow tracks that look like paired hearts. Somehow, this image makes you feel warmer on a bitterly cold January day.

The Millennium Dome, often referred to simply as The Dome, is the original name of a large dome-shaped building, originally used to house the Millennium Experience, a major exhibition celebrating the beginning of the third millennium. Located on the Greenwich Peninsula in South East London, England, the exhibition opened to the public on 1 January 2000 and ran until 31 December 2000. The project and exhibition was the subject of considerable political controversy as it failed to attract the number of visitors anticipated, leading to recurring financial problems.
While all of the original exhibition and associated complex has since been demolished, the canopy or shell of the dome still exists, and it is now a key exterior feature of the The O2 entertainment district.
The Prime Meridian passes the western edge of the Dome.

The new design works well if you don't have many comments or don't care about seeing/ reading them. It doesn't otherwise. It also doesn't allow you to post images in comments. These are some of the things that make Flickr different from other photo sites.
.. Never mind that it is now also soooo slow to load - who knows why really .. pre-loading too many photos, mining/ monitoring your web usage, .. whatever, it is ghastily slow nowadays
And the comments being parsed doesn't help either - except for the smartphone users. But hey I 'd use a different identity/ service for my smartphone uses.

Get more Flickr views from Twitter
Here's a tiny tip that's proved really powerful to me to get more views and mentions on Twitter. I went from having about one mention a month on Twitter, to daily referrals to my pictures.
Its so simple, but I'm amazed so few people have adopted it.
All you need to do is add the '@' symbol to your Flickr name. So, for example, I'm @doug88888.
With that one simple change, I hugely accelerated my number of views on mentions via Twitter.
Try it, and let me know how you get on.
