Cozy - Mr. Sock Monkey looks very cozy with his cup of tea, snuggled under his favourite quilt, even though he is feeling a little under the weather.

Looking for the meaning of Christmas?

I have kept a diary on & off (mostly off) for many years but since January 2003 have written every day. Each morning, when I write what I did & thought the day before, I look back on the events of ten years ago.

The Flickr Friday group theme for this week is Recall.

The #FlickrFriday #Underworld challenge

Dante's epic poem describes these words as being an inscription above The Gate of Hell which he explored with Virgil, his guide.

My representation of the entrance to Hell is a combination of photos, all taken today. The Death's Head is atop a gravestone in my local churchyard, the doorway is the entrance to a rabbit hutch and the ground is a paving stone. Various blending techniques in Photoshop were used to combine them on a trial and error basis (mainly the latter), the final result converted to monochrome with grain, a sepia wash and a sinister vignette added.

One of the greatest things about cities are their unique histories. This week for Flickr Friday we are looking for contrast. Not just any contrast, however. #UrbanContrasts that show two different sides of the coin: old architecture next to modern buildings, poverty in modern or rich areas, dynamic lighting or characters that seems out of place, etc. Show us some contrast where you live, and be sure to add your photo to the Flickr Friday Group Pool by Thursday afternoon next week and use the tag #UrbanContrasts.

Watched this bee in the garden this afternoon looking for something to eat. It landed on the banksia, wandered a bit, put it's head right down into the flower for a sample of what was on offer, backed out and then steadily made its way northward through the spirals and twists of the flowers looking for the youngest and sweetest nectar.

Machinist, my trade, is particularly attached to the term 90 degrees due to the degree of precision to which "square to" can be measured. Add to that the repeatability requirement it's easy to see why I spent a lot of time getting it square.

Or these fantastic city oasis where someone is keeping up a secret garden on a rooftop or in their backyard... Show us what #CultivatedLandscape means to you and share a photo with us this week!

Take your shot today or in the coming days and submit it to the group for a chance to be featured on FlickrBlog next Friday.

Hi Five! Congrats on your awesome work! Hope the yardwork on such a hot and humid day wasn’t too tough. Great job!

The #FlickrFriday #LongTimeAgo challenge

HNY all.

This a fossilsed ammonite, an ancient shelled cephalopod which is an order of animals including squid, cuttlefish and octopus. Ammonites were common in ancient seas but became extinct about 66 million years ago, a time coinciding with the asteroid impact which is believed to have wiped out the dinosaurs. Their shells were chambered, providing buoyancy, the animal itself living in the largest end chamber.

It is therefore at least 66 million years old but it could be over three times that. These fossils are common and act as a record of prehistoric life an unimaginable time ago.

The photo was taken as a flat lay, window lit with foil used as an improvised reflector. A 12mm extension tube was used.

I didn’t see a “WATCH FOR FALLEN ROCK” sign on the Bluff Line Trail but I still managed to find this recent rock fall. You can see the reddish rock on the ground matches the fresh scar on the rock wall behind it. The whole column fell down and shattered against the previously fallen rocks. The cycle continues along a timeline that is hard for humans to comprehend.
