Two Black-bellied Whistling Duck fledglings feeding on the Duck Weed in White Lake, Cullinan Park, Sugar Land, Texas.
The Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) is one of the largest species of owl, and females can grow to a total length of 75 cm, with a wingspan of 180 cm, with males being smaller. So this little ball of fluff still has some growing to do.
This picture of a tame (!) fledgling was taken during a workshop at a falconry.
OK, here's my contribution to the recent stream of fuzzy fledgling Owl postings.
I first encountered nesting Great Horned Owls in this open space eight or ten years ago and it's been a constant producer of adult and fledglings. A few weeks ago I finally found the elusive nest. I tried to get images of the chicks in the nest, but only got a few low quality images in fading light. I returned the other day and found the nest empty. After searching for half an hour I heard a fledgling call out and was able to locate this one...again the light was failing but I was able to get a few shots before dark.

Think this may be a male fledgling as I can see a dark chest appearing! Such a cute little thing just sitting on the fence in the garden taking it all in. Thanks for viewing and have a safe and happy new week 😀
What a thrill to watch these two Peregrine Falcon fledglings. They got really excited here when one of their parents did a fly-by. Check this large for some lovely detail - zero crop with that Sony at full frame size.
This tiny fledgling landed in my garden for a brief rest while practising its first flight. This is the UK's smallest Bird
Emerging into the sunlight. Shortly after I took this picture I was relieved to see him fly up into the tree. I always get worried about fledglings on the ground.
Yesterday in the garden. The Dunnock is a small bird, about the size of a Robin, which is common in gardens, parks, hedgerows, scrub and along woodland edges. Dunnocks are shy birds, hopping about in low vegetation and around the edge of lawns, feeding on small insects, worms and seeds. When two males meet, however, they become animated with territorial calling and wing-flicking. Males and females will form strong pairs, but the female will still mate with another male, so neither male knows who the father is and both supply her chicks with food. They nest in hedges or shrubs, laying up to five eggs
Fledged sometime between 3 pm and 4:15 pm. As of 9 pm she hasn't moved from this perch. I am amazed at how fast they grow. She is very aware, watching all the activity below. Her perch is at the same height as the nesting box, about 10 feet (3 meters) off the ground.
The dogs were getting antsy and it didn't look like she was interested in moving, so I let them all loose for a run around and this little owl watched very intently. I'm just amazed by the whole thing.
The adult and 3 fledglings were all on this wall at Loch Lomond NNR - Fab to watch these seemingly angry little birds LOL
A little photo I took yesterday. So lovely to see a fledgling in the garden.
I hope you're all well Flickr friends :-)
My Instagram profile;
Magpie fledglings often end up on the ground because their wings are not strong enough to flap.
This is alright if the parents are feeding it and there are no predators.
There are cats in the area so I brought it home.
When 2 weeks have passed I will take it back to where I got it from and hopefully the parents will turn up.
The adult Australian magpie ranges from 37 to 43 cm in length, with distinctive black and white feather and gold brown eyes. With its long legs, the Australian magpie walks easily and spends a lot of time on the ground.
•In Australian aboriginal lore, the symbolism and occult meaning of the magpie is associated to ‘motherly love’, ‘protection’, and ‘provision’.
This guy fledged a few days ago and is now practicing his flying and landing skills. When I saw it this morning in the field, I realized I was going to process it as a monochrome image. The only color on the bird is its yellow feet. It's perfect for black and white in my opinion.
