Almost every night for about 3 minutes, the sunset sky behind our house turns a flaming orange colour. This particular night it was looking rather dark and brooding with the dark clouds.

The Flaming Mountains (Chinese: 火焰山; pinyin: huǒyànshān) or Gaochang Mountains are barren, eroded, red sandstone hills in the Tian Shan of Xinjiang. They lie near the northern rim of the Taklamakan Desert and east of the city of Turpan. Their striking gullies and trenches caused by erosion of the red sandstone bedrock give the mountains a flaming appearance at certain times of the day

When I took this picture, I thought this was a gorgeous shot and place.
A few weeks later, on my way home from Colorado, I read the book: Cadillac Desert, and my view of this place was turned one hundred and eighty degrees around: an ecological blight.
What a difference a few weeks make.

Scorching flames from a steam punk octopus keeps the dancing Burners warm, shielding them from the cold winds blowing across the vividly colored playa night. To the right, a dance party marches on through the night, and behind a flaming tree for those weary travelers looking for conversation or a night's rest.
We were walking down the street in Strasbourg when we came across this Renault Twingo that was on fire. Shortly afterwards, the fire fighters came, with their nice, shiny helmets, and put out the fire. Soon all that remained was the bad smell.
Flaming Gorge Reservoir is a reservoir in Wyoming, on the Green River, created by Flaming Gorge Dam. Construction on the dam began in 1958 and was completed in 1964. The reservoir stores 3,788,900 acre feet (4.6735×109 m3) of water when measured at an elevation of 6,040 feet
