Caryota urens is a species of flowering plant in the palm family from the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia where they grow in fields and rainforest clearings. The epithet urens is Latin for "stinging" alluding to the chemicals in the fruit. They are commonly called solitary fishtail palm, toddy palm, wine palm, jaggery palm.

Fishtail still has his favorite toy -- a small squirrel without any stuffing -- that he got shortly after joining our family. He loves that thing and carries it all over the house!

So, while we were eating our amazing lunch (seriously, I cannot recommend this place enough....EXCELLENT food and the staff was so nice, letting us try all sorts of stuff), I noticed what looked like a stack of pancakes. Neither of us knew what to make of them until a woman came in and ordered a try of them. The owner took each one and filled it with cream and topped it with pistachios. And that was it. I had to have one. Unfortunately, they were sold by the tray. And if you know me, you know that I'm cheap and weary of having so many calories at my disposal. So, it's all but unprecedented for me to buy a tray of desserts (nevermind that I had already decided to purchase an assortment of other desserts). But I did.
For $30 we got this tray, a dozen fatayers, another half dozen dessert items, two diet Pepsi, our lunch of 2 fatayers, lahm bel ajeen and mankousheh, and free samples of an amazing cheesy-flatbread thing and another cheese-filled dessert.
Based on the recent-ish LA Times article on global pizzas, we went to Forn Al Hara (Anaheim) for the lahm bel ajeen and came home with much, much more.
