As the recipe says these fish curries taste better the next day and is served a day after it is cooked. Good that we made two chattis of fish curry as it needed constant replenishing. (chatti is the earthen pot in which it is cooked and served) more here :

Maacher jhol == Bengali Style Fish Curry
Take any fresh water fish, deep fry till golden brown, keep aside. Chop 2 tomatoes & 1 green chilly very finely. Prepare 1 tbsp ginger paste and 1/2 tsp jeera (cummins seed) paste. In a non-stick pan heat 1 tbsp oil, preferably the oil that was used to fry the fish (I use less oil but if you like more oil add extra 1 tbsp). Heat the oil till it's smoking, then add the jeera paste and stir fry for 30 seconds. Add the ginger paste and stir fry till it turns golden. Add the chopped tomatoes, chopped chilly, 1-1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp turmeric powder & keep frying in reduced heat. When the tomatoes start melting add 1-1/2 cup water and add the fish. Keep boiling till the gravy becomes thick. Taste for salt & remove from flame. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve with boiled rice (I use the aromatic Assamese Joha Rice)

Recipe is from one of my flickr friend Mr. Paul VJ and his wife Mrs. Nimmy Paul. I used Tilapia and tamarind instead of Kokum (Kodumpuli, Garcinia indica) that they used. Kokum is a rain forest fruit that is commonly available and used in cuisine along the West Coast of India. But can be substituted by tamarind. It gives a different flavor! Thanks Mr. Paul and Ms. Nimmy for sharing the recipe with us.
My friend Robin's recipe of fish curry.... Tilapia instead of sea fish but with coconut milk. I was really gooD! Recipe is here...

Nasi Padang is incomplete without the Sambal Lado Hijo, the semi fiery green chili paste. It's not the main star in the Nasi Padang show but without it, the whole spread of Nasi Padang will be, well, incomplete.

Fish curry from scratch in 20 minutes total cost would be about £9 if you bought everything together. All the ingredients but the fish are reusable or very cheap. Total cost if you had the sauces and spices would be about 50p for the fish between 4 people.
I wrote the recipe here: imgladitburnt.co.uk/blog/easy_thai_green_curry_student_ch...
