When I created this piece I was thinking about a good friend who is going through some rough times right now. Hurry back - I miss you!

Some old drying racks where the salted cod was dried before being packed up and sent off to Europe. They are no longer in use.

So called because of the false eye spots on their backs. The theory is that a predator will be confused and bite the wrong end, thus allowing the fish to escape (minus their tail, presumably). Since I've never seen one without a tail, I don't know if that's really nature's intent, or just a good theory! (IMG_0055)

A! Kelner opowiedział nam dowcip po chorwacku - zrozumieliśmy!

Time for local cuisine. The fish was delicious, but I ordered squids in French style. Another sea food I didn't fall in love with. The prices are reasonable even for us. The restaurant is fabulously located - just at the sea. Ah! The waiter told us a joke in Croatian - we got it!
