Saturday, September 6th was the annual American Red Cross Appreciation Day at Memorial Stadium. More than 300 volunteers will be collecting donations for the American Red Cross during the Nebraska vs. McNeese State game. The Red Cross encouraged everyone attending the game to drop a donation in the buckets that were passed through the stadium during halftime.
The volunteers passing the bucket represent 13 companies and organizations, including: ADM, Allied Insurance/ Nationwide, Allstate – Lincoln, Ameritas, Bryan Health, First National Bank, Hy-Vee, Molex, Nebraska Book Company, State Farm, UPS, Waste Connections of Nebraska, and Zoetis.
The money collected by “passing the bucket” will be used to support Red Cross services in Nebraska including; disaster response and preparedness, immediate response to victims of house fires and severe weather, lifesaving training, crisis communication services for military families, and the First Aid Services Team.
The Red Cross First Aid Services Team (FAST) was founded in 1937 to provide lifesaving care at every Husker home game. Since then, the First Aid Team has expanded to provide care at over 300 events in Lincoln and Lancaster County. There is no charge to patients that receive medical care from the First Aid Team. “This program saves lives,” said Tina Labellarte, Region Executive. “Our volunteers get to the patients quickly, assess and respond to their needs, and get advanced medical care when needed.”
