I was worried wasn't going to like the purple eye shadow with the red lips and how it went with the sweater but since Regine Cesaire was refusing to come down in price, Janay was going to have to do. And I'm ok with it. Because doll makeovers are serious business lmao #firstworldproblems #dollcollectorproblems
After spending three days away attending a Tangi (Maori funeral) of a family member, all we wanted to do was to get home. We were tired and this truck slowed us down and we just could not get past it.

Arrived home this evening to find that our (#@#$^*&#@) neighbors sheared our giant, gorgeous black walnut tree today. Without a word to us (okay, honestly, I haven't spoken to them in several years, since the last go-round of dispute over this tree). They did stay within their legal rights, cutting right back to the property line, so barring the demise of the tree from this treatment, there isn't anything we can do.
The tree is one of the largest and oldest in our neighborhood, which does not have many big trees at all. It is a stunning specimen and provides wonderful shade and cooling for our house. The neighbors on both sides hate it with a passion because of the leaves it drops (note: the tree was there before EITHER neighboring house was built), and this hatred goes back 50+ years.
After initially stomping around the backyard, and some speculation about lawyers or deliciously sneaky revenge pranks, Tobin and I are mellowing out with some wine. In the grand scheme of things, though we feel angry and violated now, this certainly isn't a tragedy. In fact, I'm pretty sure this qualifies as a First World Problem: www.reddit.com/r/firstworldproblems/ Reading over that site definitely restores my perspective. Anyone care to share their First World Problem of the day/week/month with me?
Oh, my other FWP: I'm too enraged to come up with an interesting photo. So this lamp, bowed humbly yet setting the wall aglow, will have to do.

I've never seen an outdoor escalator that's open to the elements before. Is it a way of making a point, or getting lazy people into a park? It's funny, as kid we'd have just run up the grass bank!
And after the rainy morning the sun came out :) Too bad (for the pics) it was a harsh one... #firstworldproblems

I love Twitter... or THIS is why I love Twitter. It's simple, uncomplicated and you get to know fun and interesting people and they actually talk back to you. But even at Christmas or days around it people don't even relax but tweet like never before.
Now we know everyone in the rich, privileged, wealthy countries can't be happy or satisfied everyday, but this made for some is hilarious reading. Maybe they weren't serious about it but, com'on don't tell the world.
This is one of those phenomenomas we call a "First World Problem".
For me I am happy, hope you are.
Happy Holidays and best wishes to all of you!
Had a 4-5 hours power outage in our part of Ottawa earlier today. It was tense. I noticed that there were zero WiFi APs. ZERO !!! I can normally see dozens from the 3rd floor. It was like we were back in the stone ages. Surely it's one of the modern signs of the coming Apocalypse.
Wait !!! I can see a WiFi AP now. It's weak but there. You know what this means? One of my neighbours has a generator. SOB is probably already hoarding food in their bunker.
Ok. Power now back. Almost six hours. Luckily it ended before things got really bad. We almost had to order out. Gasp! :-O

I was completely going (daaaaa!) for this topic !!! but to me, having only just a liiiiiiittle quality time with family is much more a universal problem not only in the First World society !
Have a wonderful time with your family ya'll ♥

FIRST WORLD PROBLEM is the topic for Monday 26th September 2011

So here it is. I received a bunch of emails and comments about this portrait which I pulled from my stream last week. Of course when something is taken away it's human nature to want to know what you missed. I pulled it because my daughter felt she looked uh...bitchy. Which she does, but don't we all from time to time. I had her read the comments and then told her she could also go clean her room. She had a change of heart and realized she was making too much of it. She said I could post the portrait again. The original comments are here but the favorites were deleted which happens when you make a public photo private. Thanks all who emailed and commented, I really like this one, for that steel melting gaze.
I can now post this to our daily topic - First World Problems (difficult teens)

ODC2 topic for Monday 26 September - First World Problem.
I did think of putting in my dripping tap, after having no water for 30 hours, and even now there is insufficient pressure to run hot water through the geyser. I realised that being part of the "First World" (in a third world country, lol) means we have no backup plans for eventualities. We take so much for granted - like running water, on tap, all the time.
However, I find a stranger dichotomy - my youngest granddaughter brought round her bonnet that she had created for Arbour Day last Friday (you know when they plant trees and teach children about not wasting trees and paper!!) (her bonnet is in comments, lol) - then in the Sunday paper was this MASS of pages and pages of special advertising supplements, exhorting us to buy, buy, buy, while saving, lol!! What a waste of paper!! Yeah I think we really need to look at our Lifestyle Choices, the waste and double-standards.
Anyway, had to get this in quick - got lots more packing and sorting to do. So have a great day everyone - and don't buy what you don't need!! :-)
In the First World our Lifestyle allows us to choose everything - in non-First World Countries they only have one choice - how to survive.

250/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "First world problem":
I had never heard this term before today. Interesting concept and hits close to home, I'm afraid. This is a very trite response to the challenge...all I had time for today. I could argue that the triteness of it further embodies the concept of "first world problem". How spoiled am I that I was frustrated to drop my new iPhone 4 and break its cute case? Awwww....poor me...had to buy a new more durable one. Can you hear the world's smallest violin playing its sad song?

I was complaining to Erika about my hair situation and trying to get sensible advice on what the hell to do about it.
She admonished me for such an ungracious remark, given that for many 38YO men, having complaints of too much hair could be seen as a "First World Problem."
Erika rules.

This shot was accident, but whatever. It fits the challenge perfectly I'm watching doctor who right now and I'm on my moms iPad. I kinda love the weird colors in this. David Tennant is a god. I need to go take today's picture. But I just started a new episode of doctor who. #firstworldproblems
