This sign is really quite annoying and keeps blowing down the street. I wish they would come and get it already.
Our new portrait of her hangs above her pillow. Some might say we need our collective head examined.
I just think we are devoted.
(Many thanks to brilliant South Carolina artist Heather LaHaise for making our doggie artwork dreams come true.)

We moved out on January 16, 2010 from the first place we called our home after getting married. This place served us well for 1.5 years and we will always have fond memories of the place.
Older Nephew wanted a Lego policeman cake for his 8th birthday. As usual, I was happy to oblige.

The soft color was peeking out through the white branches, and I was smitten.

Because Jet deserves the best. This recipe has peanut butter, whole wheat flour and rolled oats.

The living room. All this furniture came with the apartment; fancy-pants, ain't it? There are huge sliding door windows that open out onto the garden.
Really, a wooden lazy susan and five square ramekins. I like the way it looked nevertheless.

In front of the house where I was born, in the basse-ville neighborhood of Quebec City. We lived on the second floor, above a grocery store where I loved to play. We had a swing inside the veranda on the right. We lived there (a family of 6) until I was 6 years-old.

I got Jet these balloon-like "socks" to protect her paws from the road salt this winter. Her paws are really paining her from the salt getting down in the cracks in her pads, so between these and a marvelous product called Paw Guard, we are getting the problem under control.
Surprisingly, she does not mind these "socks." She seems to know they help her. I call them her "bull mastiff socks" because the ones sized for retrievers were too small for her, and I had to go one size up to the ones made for, among other breeds, bull mastiffs.

OK, so there is this phenomenal game show called "Without Prejudice?", where a panel of five people get to decide which of five contestants gets $25,000 based solely on very basic information such as looks, marriage status, employment, beliefs and "lifestyle." It is awesome and awkward.
This Bobby Trendy copycat, "Matthew Fashion," was a particularly judgmental panelist. He was so awful. For example: one of the contestants was this woman who was born a hermaphrodite. When she was a teenager her parents decided -- under the guise of telling her she was having a necessary hysterectomy -- that she was going to have gender assignation surgery to make her a woman. She would not have made this choice, but she is living with it and has been in a happy long-term relationship with another woman.
So this Matthew Fashion piece of work went ON AND ON about how he was "crying her a river" because she had gender identity issues and a tough childhood. He kept saying that she should be over it, and she should know who she is, because he, Matthew Fashion, knows exactly who he is and is totally confident in himself. Well, bravo, Matthew Fashion. But in the case of this woman: she *had* gotten over it, for the most part. She was in this happy relationship and was not pulling a "poor me" card whatsoever.
It was hilarious and sad, all at the same time.

An engineering wonder, the KitchenAid stand mixer dough hook attachment does all the kneading work for me.

I had a little fun with some leftover chocolate-caramel ganache frosting and a few shades of royal icing.

Wow. I had already forgotten what this looked like. I have since painted and gotten storage shelving from IKEA and made the utility room more, um, utilitarian.
These tomatoes are way cool. All the seeds are concentrated in an arc just under the skin, so the center is meaty, delicious and almost completely seedless. I have a friend who once illegally took one of these out of Italy so she could dry the seeds and grow them in her yard; she and her brother grow them to this day.
I got these plants as seedlings from the local (Italian-owned) garden center. (Boring.)

Another view of our bedroom. There is a raised platform by the windows with sliding doors. With floor cushions, this would make a great reading room.
The house you can see through the window here is where George Eastman lived the first 6 years of his life. It was located in Waterville, near Utica, NY. The home was moved to the grounds of the mansion in Rochester where Eastman lived his adult life. Then about 20 years the house was moved to what I hope is its final resting place here at the Genesee Country Village.
The proud family in their first home on Sugar Island. Sugar is North of Neebish Island in the Saint Mary's River at the Eastern end of the Upper Peninsula. Great Grandparents holding my grandmother.
Jet wakes up from a long nap and the already-curly hair on her head is even curlier and messier.

This is the dessert I made for tonight's Passover seder. It was wonderfully moist and just sweet enough without being too sweet. Kosher for Passover, too!

Now that I have a very rudimentary knowledge of Photoshop, I just had to share a closer look at Jet enjoying her homemade dog treat.
The best part: tongue!
